Basically,...you don't need to worry about wearing one out.
I started playing the IHMSA game in the revolver class with a 7.5" Superblackhawk in .44mag and got pretty good with it.
The 10" Contender was a whole different ballgame. It was such an improvement over the revolver that it felt like I was cheating.

No PMs yet, so I assume no interest in a 375 Win barrel package. I'll wait until Monday and then list it on an auction site.
I spent yesterday searching for the value of everything included, and was shocked. The barrel, mounts, scope, dies, 300 cases, 80 factory rounds and 400 bullets comes to about $925 if you ordered it all today. Wowsa.
I'm asking $550 and I'll eat the shipping.

I got one of the old models out of an estate sale a couple of years ago. Got a .357magnum barrel, a .44magnum, and a .45 colt/.410 barrel Haven't fooled with the .44, but the .357 had a first generation red dot on it, had to order the batteries through the net. Dead but accurate. The .45colt i have fired .410 shells in it, and surprising what it can do. Am about ready this morning to go to another estate sale that has some contenter pistols in it. The guy had one barrel in 7.08 that he could shoot dimes at a 100yards with. Kind of a fun gun. Someday i will trip accross a .223 barrel.

BrotherBart: I have only owned and shot ONE Thompson Contender of my own. This pistol is in caliber 223 Remington and has a 14" heavy barrel. It is capable of outstanding accuracy. The trigger is simply perfect! I have a Burris 3x9 variable scope on it and use it for Prairie Doggin and the occassional behind the seat Coyote gun. The single thing that keeps me from buying more barrels is MY in-ability to quickly attain the target in the miniscule scope field of view that is mandatory on long eye relief pistol scopes. My pistol has been fired maybe 500 times total and it has functioned perfectly for the 13 years I have owned it. I am not astute enough on the various modfels of the T/C Contender to comment on the G-2 or any other model of Contender. Into my local pawn/sport shop last month came a used stainless newer model Contender and as I was making up my mind it sold out from under me!!! I really like the looks of this new stainless frame Contender. This stainless pistol was selling in two parts frame and then the 22-250 barrel and scope. I have not been in to see if the barrel/scope sold as yet. They (all kinds of Contender frames/barrels) are popular items as I see them traded regularly at gunshows. Best of luck if you decide to try one. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Far as I'm concerned the .375 Win in a Contender is the best chambering of all, next to a .22lr.

Listed the barrel in Classifieds. Search for "Contender 375" to find the notice.

My frame is the older one with the damned sexy Mountain Lion engraved on the side. I have .45/.410 barrel, a .17 Rem, a .357 Magnum and a 7mm TCU. I've shot my brother's .223 and .22 Hornet. They are wicked accurate in my experience and make a real nice carbine if you decide the handgun thing sucks... Travis

Easy open Contenders allow a handyman to successfully perform a fantastic trigger job, while the G2 requires... more.
The G2 allows the shooter to release the hammer, and not have to open the frame prior to re-cocking it, as the Contender does.
When choosing a barrel or three, note that you can buy a custom made to order MGM or Bullberry barrel for little more than a TC barrel, as TC has incurred price increases over recent years.
Good luck with your pending addiction.

....The G2 allows the shooter to release the hammer, and not have to open the frame prior to re-cocking it, as the Contender does. ..... That's a BIG + for the G2, especially for hunting. Note: beware high X pistol scopes for hunting. You have to give up something to get long eye relief, and that something is field of view. I gave up deer hunting with my 14" bull barrel, 4x scope 7mm TCU because I couldn't find a deer in the scope plus the long and heavy barrel was ungainly in the deer thickets. I recently went with a 10" bull barrel 7mm TCU with a 2x scope, and the combination is a thicket hunter's dream.
