There have been lots of posts of animals taken this year with 99's. Lets see how many we can get together in this one post. The first one of the season for us was my oldest son Greg taking a moose with his 99C in 7mm08 (he has also taken a couple of whitetail deer, but I don't have the pictures). A couple of days ago I got myself a little muley buck. They are not that plentiful in this area, so anything legal was going to be taken this year for our first one. This is a little fork horn. I used my 99C in 284. This is my brother Keith in the picture. Then yesterday my youngest son Justin got this 8 point whitetail with his 99F in 300 sav. He is the only one doing it old school with a premil rotary mag. Justin's moustache is for Movember (fund raiser for prostate cancer). A pretty happy Dad! Blair

When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Is that a BLR I see? That's OK...I owned one in 308 a long time and shot a pile of deer with it before I learned the attributes of the 99. My son has that gun now and it is still killing deer Nice lookin' animals in those pictures.

I use the word "harvest" when talking hunting with my non-hunting friends, most of whom are definitely anti-hunting and not pro gun at all (but respect my pursuits). I figure why stir up any more bloody imagery than necessary since quite often it comes down to swing votes from people like them when legislation that affects us is in the offing. Amongst "us girls" I use words like "whack" "kill" etc.

We are too politically correct for our own good. I find myself doing the same thing, when what we should be doing is making the non-hunting public aware of the fact that they are killing a cow to have a steak, or a chicken to have a chicken sandwich. Then maybe they could see the justification of us "KILLING" deer to eat tenderloin. Getting off my soapbox now.

nice buck, jim. What part of va. are ya in? I'll also put in my 2cents about "harvesting". last year, one of my kids was learning about thanksgiving at school, the teacher used the phrase "caught" to describe killed game. I told him, no, son we "catch" fish, and kill deer.

The truth is, if it was alive and we turned it into food, we killed it.
No need to freak out the gentile folks around us I guess but over here on the Campfire let's drop the PC terminology...

I dusted a 16 pt buck last Sunday and a nice 8 the next morning.
Had the R in 300 with me opening morning and saw nothing thankfully. I got out of the truck, loaded her up and slung it over my back. Not sure how old that thin leather sling with the sling hooks was but she let go dead center and the gun landed right on the scope when it hit the ground. After the morning hunt I took my back up gun, a 1981 model 110 in 7mm-08 wearing a Boyds thumbhole forest laminate stock and a Redfield 2-7X lo-pro scope out. Did the trick for sure, nice shootin gun.
My upload file is on the fritz but Blair has a pick of the two, maybe he can post it for me later.

Here's my only 1899 kill of the year. A 1911 A in 303. I chased doe antelope around with a 250-3000, but was not comfortable taking a 300(ish) yard shot with it so I ate that tag. My 300 Sav didn't even get to go for a walk this year.
