my grandfather gave me a .22 290 winchester ive shot it and i like it but ive heard they arent very reliable. Im going coyote hunting in a few weeks and i dont know if i should use this gun or get a different one. one of the guys told me i can use this it might just take a few shots what do you think?

you need something more powerful than that if you can. at least a .223

+1 on the 223, at the very least a Hornet.

and, keep and love those guns given to you by a family member. i sold a shotgun my dad bought for me and i wish all the time that i had it back. not for the gun but for the memories and the gift from dad.

For heavens sake keep the 290, just get something a little bigger for coyotes. I've shot quite a few with the 22 mag taken at close range while calling.

My 290 has been completely reliable with everything--that's never been an issue. Enjoy the rifle--the memories are worth a million.

I bought a 290 back when they first came out and used it for quite a few years with no problems. I gave it to someone with a young son. That boy, now grown, still uses it as his main .22. No telling how many thousands of rounds have been shot through that rifle.
