Those of us close to SSI might want to rethink tossin' out the meskins!
It's tough to say how many people are in the U.S. illegally, let alone how many are working or using public resources. Every study uses rough estimates. Still, we do have some clues. Illegal immigrants contribute to the economy whenever they pay sales tax and, indirectly through rent payments, real estate taxes. Also, those who use false Social Security numbers pay taxes into the system they don't get back, since people here illegally aren't eligible to receive Social Security payments. In 2003 alone, the government received Social Security taxes on $57.8 billion from wage reports that couldn't be matched to the person filing. Illegal immigrants are excluded from most federal and state entitlements such as subsidized housing or food stamps, and a 2007 congressional report found they appear to contribute more than they use in services. But the money they contribute often goes to federal and state coffers, while many services they benefit from, such as health and law enforcement, come out of local government budgets. Several studies show more than half of the country's estimated 12 million illegal immigrants are uninsured (out of a total of 47 million uninsured people in the U.S.) and thus likely to use public emergency rooms that treat everyone regardless of ability to pay. It's difficult to calculate the amount of free health care - or, for that matter, free public-school education - they benefit from, since it simply isn't known what proportion of these services go to people who are in the country illegally. Another cost of illegal immigrants: Their willingness to accept low wages drives down wages in some industries. Then again, if immigrants didn't take these jobs, some of them might get outsourced overseas. Using Pew Hispanic Center and U.S. Census statistics, the independent economic research firm the Perryman Group concluded that if all illegal immigrants were deported, agriculture would lose nearly a quarter of its workers, the building maintenance industry would lose 17 percent and the construction industry would lose almost 15 percent. I say toss em out and we'll see whether or not these stupid surveys and studies, typically driven and a product of liberal think-tanks, are as skewed as most of us believe.
I highly doubt the loss of Illegals will be a negative for us working Americans. The local hospital was in the red last year because California law allowed 2 illegal aliens to rack up millions of dollars in hospital bills, none of which will be reimbursed. Should have gotten them stabilized, and gave them back to that dictator Ahole Obama sucked face with.
Run them out, and use the bressaro program to monitor the mexicans allowed back in.......

agriculture would lose nearly a quarter of its workers, the building maintenance industry would lose 17 percent and the construction industry would lose almost 15 percent. We're supposed to believe that 25% of ag workers + 17% of building maintenance workers + 15% of workers in the construction industry - ALL ACROSS THIS LAND - amounts to only 12 million people? That's just stupid.

And furthermore, wouldn't this horrible "loss" equate to some much needed jobs FOR AMERICANS?!! You know.... those people who BELONG HERE?!!

Yep...toss out ALL the illegals. With the unemployment problem as it is now, I'd say out with the "Work permit" holders too...

If 10% of the current population of the US is here illegally and we have 10 % unemployment simple subtraction and addition should suffice. It's not like it's difficult to figure. hard math.... soft figures.... are there any real solutions? (sorry Gus, your MO just seemed appropo...)

The PEW hispanic center should be called the PEW nonAmerican hispanic research center.
It's a liberal organization promoting illegal propaganda. It's math is weighted.

We have the absolute right to control our borders and determine who is allowed to enter. Those that enter illegally are criminals and should be treated as criminals. The problem is that the politicians are pandering to illegals and encouraging them to flood into our country.
Our poor suffer the because of the flood of illegals into our country. The illegals take the jobs that are suited for our poor. I had a friend who gave of wielding because he made more selling furniture. The illegals are willing to work any job for peanuts and take jobs from citizens. They also compete for government services such as welfare and education. We could spend a lot more per pupil in poor neighborhoods if we only paid for citizens. If the politicians really cared about our poor they would get serious about catching and punishing these criminals.

There was a large construction project up here a few years ago that people just couldn't get hired on. Even after the INS raided it. Seems the Hunt brothers just brought more illegals in to do very crappy work. Some of that stuff had to be torn all the way down to the foundation before they could start fixing it.
Of course people here legally wouldn't work for an amount UNDER minimum wage. They also expect the boss to have insurance if they get hurt on the job. Illegals; whatever they can get for wages, don't worry about insurance, and if they have a complaint one call to the INS will get that settled to the bosses satisfaction.
Illegal immigration; also known as the new slavery.
