Got this 9 pointer Thurs morning at 7:50AM on private land in Lebanon. I usually see alot of deer in this spot but nothing was happening so I started calling around 7 hoping to get something going. I was looking to my left when I heard something to my right and he was trotting down the hill towards the swamp in back of me. He was in thick brush and there was a little window before he hit the swamp so I got ready and when his shoulder hit the crosshair I touched one off and he was gone. I was sure he was hit but didn't know how well so I started glassing the swamp and eventually could see a white belly through the brush so I climbed down and he was done. First buck with my 280AI and it's the best deer I've gotten off this property in 20 years of hunting there. He weighed in at 189lbs and has a 20" outside spread. Biologist said he was 5 1/2. I realized after the fact that my camera is at my mother-in-laws so I didn't get any pics in the woods except with my phone. I'm shooting the Nosler Custom 140gr Accubond load. The bullet hit the back of one lung, went through the liver and paunch. Not the best shot but it had to happen pretty quick and he only went about 40 yards. A good start for the new gun!

Chris Thanks! Have you whacked any with the 338 Fed yet? Yep. That rifle shoots very good. Opening day in that wind, the only deer I saw was what I thought was a doe. Freezer was empty, so I took it. Turns out it was a yearling buck with nubs...used up an antlerless tag.

Yes, it was a good way to break in the new gun! The Accubond did a pretty good job too considering where he was hit.
