By Jonathan Grass | JUNEAU EMPIRE

Funerals aren't only for humans. A special memorial service for the wolf known locally as Romeo is at 1 p.m. Saturday at the West Glacier Trail near the raft launch.

Wolves are special, and Romeo is special-er.

I'm glad you posted this, it was the next thing on my to-do list. Cracks me up, the other day someone said they were leaving Juneau becuase there were too many Republicans in this town.... I'm still trying to figure out which Juneau they live in.

Let us not forget Juneau also had "Friends of Nimbus" - those fine folks who rescued Nimbus from the dump and re-erected it for the public to grit their teeth over.

As for Romeo, R I P...you did a fine job on my buddy's Lab.

And I remember just the other day his mother was saying what a good wolf he was as a kid. She just didn't know where he had gone wrong. Probably influence from his friends. laugh laugh

According to the article, Juneau is a kinder, gentler sort of place.

Sounds like the makings of a business model.

Steelhead needs to post that picture of the wuff taking a nap in the pink canoe... Light it on fire and one could have a wuff "viking funeral"...

Nick was a true Alaskan until he got hitched. I knew him pre-Sherry. It is funny that most of us can convince our potential mates that we are pretty set with guns and hunting.

Nick on the otherhand became a bunny hugger in a very short period.

We used to go hunting for wolves on sno-gos up the Kobuk river and in the Warring Mountains 15 years ago and now he is eulogizing them.

Pity...Pity...

Sincerely,
Thomas

A perfect opportunity for me to offer to "buy the next round". grin

Actually, no one should feel too bad about removing an aging wolf from the pool. If the pic shown is the critter, that guy is obviously aging anyway. Call it a mercy killing.

The good news about being a man is that we have both a brain and a penis.

The bad news is there's only enough hydraulics to operate one system at a time.

Is it any wonder then, that a goodly number of men end up with high blood pressure? Probably comes from trying to run both at once, a very frustrating objective to be sure. grin

I am truly sorry to learn you fine outdoorsmen in Alaska have, in your great state, the same kind of nut cases we have here in Kalifornia. I figured only in Kalifornia could one fine something so utterly stupid and inane as a funeral for a %&^$%&# wolf. I am sure the wolf's kin are mighty touched by the whole event. I guess the cancer that began in this cesspool called Kalifornia has now spread to other regions of our once fine country.

Communists: I still hate them even after they changed their name to "liberals".
