Tim416, so a 223 or 22-250 is not legal for springbok and impala in Namibia?

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

According to the Namibia Professional Hunters Ass. I e-mailed their contact in order to confirm your answer.
For springbok, impala, duiker, etc. the Joule,(Minimum of 967 ft.lbs.) factor will take precedent over the minimum caliber requirement. In other words a .223 with 1300 ft. lbs. is sufficient for the small antelope in Namibia even though it does not fit the 7 mm requirement as it satisfies the Joule minimum.
I hope this helps out.

When you go off to Africa it costs thousands of dollars and your rifle is stressed by the shipping and conditions while hunting. A broken rifle could end up ruining your hunt and wasting all those $$. I don't know how reliable the Marlin rifles are, but I would not depend on such a cheap gun.

There are lots of other rifles that are known to be dependable. Remington, Winchester, Savage and Weatherby are know to be dependable and well made. It would be worth your while to purchase a rifle made by one of these companies. They may cost a bit more, but in the overall scheme of things they are cheap.

Since you admit to not knowing anything about Marlin bolt-guns I am at a loss as to why you would offer any advice about them...

If you 'hunt' your animal and have the self control to wait for a clear shot it will handle Kudu as they aren't that tough.

After useing a 9.3x62 on my last trip I have had a 7x57 built for my next trip. This will be used on all plains game from Eland on down. If you need a soft recoiling rifle then maybe a 7x57 is worth a try. Shoot one before committing to buying one however. I find the recoil with low velocity loads very similar to my sons .243W without the 'snap' of recoil in a .243W. This is only a perception.

Factory W-W 175 loads in my long throated rifle only do just over 2,100 fps and will penetrate forever.

A 7x57 with a bit of weight in it (get the tracker to carry it for you, they cost very little) and high SD projectiles like the 154 or 175 Hornady Interlocks are all you need.

You mentioned "After useing a 9.3x62 on my last trip I have had a 7x57 built for my next trip." I wasn't sure of the point you were making about the 9.3. Did it not work well for you so you are trying the 7x57? Just interested hearing further from you about that.

Not much I would not shoot inside 250 yds w/a 80 TTSX or 85 TSX/XBT in a 243, broadside/lungs so long as it's legal.

They are not wearing Kevlar, and I am confident in those Barnes, inc. on larger critters.
