Given that scenario I wonder what conditions he was shooting his 3 inch groups under, was it windy, was he using windflags, was he using good bench techniques and equiptment, is he a capable benchrest shooter?
Drover - this guy was a national level position shooter with a Win 52 when he was younger. He was on the Advisory Board for Millett before Bushnell bought them. He is an instructor for military and police snipers. He was shooting in our undergound range, with bags, off a concrete bench. No wind. I have seen him shoot countless groups under .050 at 50 yards in our monthly matches there. I do not question his ability. For additional info, he says that the crown was not jagged until after he shot it, and that small burrs inside were pushed out once he started shooting it.

I will pay your friend $250.00 for his Cooper and the time he took to call Cooper. He could then frame the check at your gun club along with his original receipt.

Soon as funds arive for a "sold" gun, I've got it!
Hope the one I want isn't gone by then!
Getting REAL excited now....(GRIN!)

WAAAAHHOOOOO!
New Cooper Custom Sporter 17 HMR is on the way tomarrow! Should be here by the end of next week, gotta come from MD!
Ordered it with Tally rings. It comes with mounts. Should work great with a Leupold 4X12 A.O. or 3.5x10 A.O.
One excited old GUN LOONIE here! (Big GRIN!)
I'll have to get help running my new digital camera!

jwill350,
There are pictures over on Hendershots web page.
Go to Cooper rifles, then scroll down to model 57M Custom Sporter in 17HMR.
There are about 5-6 pictures and a picture of the test target shot at 5o yards, with all 3 cutting the same hole.
There's got to be some way to cut and paste these pictures here, but I'm not computer savy enough to do it.
If someone knows how, I'd sure thank them!

That's a fine rifle friend. If your experience is anything like mine you will enjoy that rifle for years to come.

George,
Thanks much for posting pictures of my new rifle!
Am hoping to have funds for a scope soon, so you'll be able to shoot it when you come to pick up you're Mountie.

George, I'm as giddy as a 16 year old boy on his first trip to a cat house!
Have never been this excited about a new gun.
The Cooper is exactly what I wanted. Just the right amount of figure in the stock, and with a stainless/fluted barrel and no beavertail fore end.
At my age (58), I didn't know I could still get this excited!
Soon as another gun sells, I've got scope money! I'm selling several to buy exactly what I NEED ! (grin!)

Virgil B, I sold 4 other really good guns to fund my last Cooper and don't regret it for a minute. I would rather have a small handful of exactly-what-I've-always-wanted guns than a bunch of merely really good ones.

cobrad,
That's the conclusion I finally came to.
ONE GREAT RIFLE, instead of several GOOD guns!
I'm keeping my Ruger 77-17, mainly for a "loaner" and backup.

The problem here, is they are such nice rifles I have really been ruined for anything else. I took my Custom Classic .270 elk hunting this year, but now I am thinking maybe I should just use it for marmots, and buy an excalibur to hunt elk. It makes perfect sense.

Found my scope!!!
Went to the Eugene, Or. gunshow yesterday and found a Leupold 3.5 x 10 A.O. with CPC (tapered) crosshair.
Made a trade and took it home.
The rifle comes with Tally mounts, and I ordered Tally rings with it.
I'm all set now!!!
I'll be shooting the new rifle by this coming weekend! ( BIG GRIN!)
Virgil B.
P. S. I bought a brick of Hornady 17 HMR ammo at the gunshow also...

My new Cooper arrived!
Now I'm REALLY excited! It's even better looking in person, than in the pictures! and, the test target looks tighter also.
The guys at the gunshop mounted my 3.5 X 10 on it with the silver tally rings. Looks great with the stainless barrel!
One good "omen", They put the bore sighter on it and it was "dead nuts" without any adjustment.
Will be shooting by noon today! (BIG GRIN!!!!)
One excited old gun loonie! Virgil B.

Wanted to add;
Hendershots sent a cupon along with my new Cooper for $150. off my next Cooper rifle.
I won't be buying one in the near future and don't know if it's transferable but if it is someone is welcome to it.
