Capitalist, had 3 '96's myself......they shot well. I loved their 4 groove cut rifled fast twisted bbls.
Funny all the rage on cut rifled today, and the Swedes did it back then....by the tens of thousands it seems. And did them well. Never heard of a bad shooting one.
The 6.5x55 if not mistaken was originally throated in a unique way and if you ever look into the chamber of one, i.e. my Ruger K1A, it is apparent it is a long gradual leade. It is made to work well w/a variety of bullets, inc. the long heavies, and yet light bullets often shoot very well also. My bud had a Kimberized 96, shot 85s like you would not believe in the OEM bbl.

I completely agree. I haven't had one "bad" group, yet, regardless of load/components. Other than change in point of impact, any load of any component that I've tried has never turned up more than about 1.5 MOA. Just a fantastically accurate and VERSATILE(!) rifle and cartridge!

I have a 1942 M-38 Husqvarna Swede (I believe that is the details, have to dig her out of safe to confirm). Never shot the thing. Bought it because....well....just because and jut never got around to breaking it down and cleaning it up and playing with it. Pretty decent shape as these go too. Wood is better than good. The rifle still has some cosmo in the action! I need to decide to keep or sell! I really am looking for a more modern bolt Swede. Maybe I will put her up on classifieds...JC

FJ, years ago an old buddy of mine found some type of military rifle that he was so excited about because it still was full of NEOPREME. Bet it was a bitch to get out.

Very different from the OP's list, and evidently from what most others use, I've been dropping big Maine whitetails for the past 6 years with Norma 156gr Onyx JSP's, since I bought my 6.5x55 M70 Featherweight Classic.

Bwest surplus powder 48 grains, Sierra Game King seconds, 140 grain bullet, CCI Large Rifle primer and Norma brass...shoots well in an M38 Swede. But with 3 6.5x55 in the safe none has ever shot a bad group even with the budget load above.
