Going to take the plunge on a Leica 3.5-14. Debating between the #4 (german) or the #1 (post). I've read one review that said the #4 isn't near as bold as the leica examples show. Perhaps the #1 would be best for dark woods? I've never used a post type reticle.
What say you?

That #4 is too open for my taste, which is my beef with a lot of that type. I also dislike the Leupold Wide Duplex for the same reason.

I like the German # 1 myself. I have it in a 6 x 42 mm Leupold. It takes a little getting use to, maybe as many as two shots. The Leica scope sounds nice. A lot of money to be sure. I could buy a barrel mounts and a Leupold to go with it for my Blaser.

From the above pictures, I'd take the #1, though I don't like the #1 generally. In a non-illuminated reticle--so, basically anything that isn't a Trijicon Accupoint--I like a well defined reticle, and the #1 looks to be much stronger than the #4.

Thanks for posting those pics, any curiosity I had about theses scopes has now been relieved.

i wonder what a 300 yard shot with a #1 would be like. I like the concept but have never hunted with a #1. Sure would be quick on the target and not fade in low light

I ended up getting the #1. Thanks for all the help, especially the pics. The post has the pointy top, so hopefully long range shots would be precise using the tip of the point.

I bought the 2.5-10x Leica with the number 1 retical. While adjusting the scope for the first time, I shot a three shot group that measured in the high 3's at 100 yards. I don't forsee any problems shooting whitetails at 300 yds with my setup. I really like the scope and reticle combo. It is very quick to aquire targets and is excellent for low light. I wish I'd have gotten the 3.5-14 model though! I'd like to see Leica come out with a 3.5-14x50 with the target (ATS I believe) turrent. I'd buy it with the #1 retical in a heartbeat. Your going to love that scope!
