Picked it up at the 2004 price. Caliber is .243, but I bought it to re-barrel to 7/08 (Kimber is not making the 7/08 and they are not sure when prod will re-start). So I will be sending it to my favorite smith to have a Lilja stainless installed and dupe the contour.

So what barrel length should I go with? Am thinking 20", but will a 22" be the way to go? I will be shooting the Nosler 120 BT exclusivly out of it.

Oh, and I'm going to keep it simple and top it with a Leupold 6x42.

Why is it called a double u, should'nt it be called a double v?

Copy the 22" contour of the Remington 700 LVSF and happiness will be with you for many years.

I'm thinking that kinda defeats the purpose of the Montana.

I've got a factory barreled Montana 7-08, and it is as good as it gets.

I'd duplicate it or go a touch heavier, but not much.

Walked and rattled a bunch of country today. My rattling horns felt heavier than my rifle. This rifle handles like a dream, and 7-08 is a match made in heaven - especially in a rebarrel where you can match throat and magazine geometry.

Will go right back to 7-08 when I shoot this barrel out.

I'd keep it 22".

As far as the contour goes, Pac-nor has a "weight calculator" on their web page and it's interesting to see the difference between a muzzle diameter of .550 and .600 in that barrel--it's not much.

Keep it 22" as it is now a 243!

Keep looking. Buy a 308 for now. That's about the same as the 7-08.

Whatever.

Kimber screwed the pooch if they stopped chambering it in 7-08.

I think he should give the Gordy Gritters 223AI to me now........grins

Doing a different barrel contour will be a pain, as the stock is a hand laid up stock and altering the barrel channel won't be easy. I would stick with 22" myself.

Acraglas, barrel channel tool & dremel tool combined with a free afternoon will fix most contour problems.

I've run both 20" and 22" 7mm-08's.

I'd dupe the profile and go 22", myself.

Why not have it rebored?

What are you going to trade me the 243 barrel for?
