I'm new to 1911's and have a question for those in the know. After the last round is fired, the slide doesn't always stay in locked and open position. What might be the cause(s) for this. I have tried different magazines with same results. About 50% of time slide will remain open. This is on a new Springfield. Thanks for the help

The issue is most likely a magazine related problem.

It is possible that your magazines are coming loose while you're firing, causing them to drop a little bit in the mag well. That would prevent the slide from locking back.

Your slide stop has a lip on it that is supposed to protrude far enough into the mag body so that the follower lifts it up on the last round. Some slide stops, (early Kimbers), were a touch short. I've found that Wilson and Chip McCormack mags are the best all around performers for me.

Hound va - I think you are right on. I looked at my grip and sure enough my thumb naturally want to rest on the slide stop. Thanks for all the input.
