Well, a guy in Anchorage, Alaska, killed a moose with a BB gun. The pellet passed between the ribs and punctured the lungs the lungs. The moose bedded and died later. An Alaskan Native woman killed a large grizzly with a .22LR. She shot it at the base of the ear.

One of my favorite calibers, and IMHO, the best whitetail caliber of all--2MG

I like Sitka Deer's answer.

If I were to attempt such a thing, my bullet of choice would be a 175gr Barnes TripleShock, followed by a 175gr Nolser partition.

I haven't shot any big browns - but I've seen how those bullets perform on animals bigger than the average Brownie.

I was one of those that ordered a short action Montana action, and between the time I ordered it and the time I took delivery, it was several different calibers in my head. Finally I compromised on the 7mm-08, since I have never fired one. I've had the good people at Serengeti put one of their laminated stocks on it in superlight format, made out of an experimental Black Limba wood suggested by Rod at Serengeti. I understand it's very light wood and is used alot on guitars. I haven't received the rifle yet, but pictures look promising.

I have been lukewarm toward this caliber, but this thread has really made me glad I stuck with it. What's the factory ammo situation like?

I think one of the best factory solutions out there today is the Federal Premium loaded with 140gr Accubond. This is one tough bullet, judging from my bear last year taken at 50yds with my 270wby (3300+fps). It passed through both shoulders and exited. And only a half-dollar size hole on the offside.

In DocDB's rifle, which is in testing right now, these go about 2820fps out of a 22" barrel. This is one intense little cartridge and you get a lot from a little.

There is a rule of thumb that you need 1000 fp on target for deer and 2000 fp on target for elk. Not sure if these rules are valid with controlled expansion bullets thought.

Otherwise, the difference between a 7mm-08 and a 300 weatherby/338 win mag is not so much as how far away you should shoot and at what angles. The more power the more flexablity you have with tougher beasts.
