Is it very hard to get these guns to shoot sub moa? I would like to have a frame with three barrels, 223, 221 fireball and 6mm br. All sporter weight walking varminters. What is the twist rate on the 223? I couldnt find it at their website.

I have had several with barrels from T/C, Bullberry and MGM and all shot well. I currently only have 1 that I just bought. It is a Pro Hunter with 28" barrel in .30-06 and with 180 gr Hornady SST factory loads it is shooting 1/2" groups with boring regularity.

I've had mixed results with TC stuff. The first carbine I ever owned was a .17 Rem and shot very well, in the .3s ... at least for the first about 15-17 shots 'til copper fouling took over.

I've never had one do so anywhere near so well since.

Starting about 5 years ago, I've had TC custom shop carbine barrels in .17 Rem, .221 Fireball, and .357 max. None were accurate enough to do what I bought them for. I assume the barrels were ok-ish, the frame ok-ish, but those barrels and that frame just didn't get along. That frame shot ok with the handgun barrels I put on it, though, so that's only a guess.

If you stick with pillar bedded/hanger bar forends and aftermarket barrels (MGM, Bullbery, SSK, etc) they'll be darned accurate. Factory barrels can shoot very well to but they're a little more hit or miss especially with the older Contender Barrels.

My Contender was a factory 21", used Rynite stock - shot 1/2", 3 shot groups at 100 yds, as above, WITH BORING REGULARITY.....using 50 PLHP Rem bulk over H335 in commercial brass.

Buddy wanted to buy it for his son to use on a Safari, shot some small antelope/deer w/it.

I would agree factory may be hit/miss, but if you get a good one it will do fine, if Not I'd send it back. Of course nowadays, I'd likely use a custom anyway to get a non standard chamber.

My TCR 83 took 2 deer this year. Used the 7mm.08 for one and .243 for the other. Both were chip shots, so its nothing to write home about. Will have the 30/30 barrel rigged up next year. I was pleased with accuracy when sighting in. I really like that set trigger.

No gurantee factory ammo will shoot sub moa, but I'd be highly suprised if any of those barrels had trouble with handloads. I wouldn't be suprised to see 1/2 moa for 3 shots with any of those barrels.

The only question I have is who made a 6br for a contender? The contender action isn't designed for the back thrust of any full pressure 0.473" casehead round.

glenn,
the tc's .223 barrel is a 1 in 12 twist,I have an encore pistol 15 in. and 24 in. barrel and the pistol barrel will out shoot the rifle barrel.I get 1/2 in and better with the pistol, but the rifles about 1 in.I'm still trying to get the rifle to shoot sub min.,may someday i'll find the magic load.
