Snuffy, loved your comments on your life experience. Although I hate it for you man.

My old man always told me "don't cull nothin', you don't know what you're passing up! Heck it could just be tighter than a squirrel's ear!" That along with many other pearls of wisdom that he cast before me I chose to ignore.

He was also a proponent of going on the cheap, and while a few coins leftover in your jeans can be a good thing. That advice can get you killed up here when it comes to outdoor gear. Lessons I learned the hard way.

I'm more of the Bus B. school of thought " Good gear is where it's at." As most topics we discuss YMMV. 1ak

Snuffy1,
Are you saying that pretty rifles don't always perform well because they have a headache?

Rob

Absolutely not, just don't automatically assume that the cheap or ugly ones will not preform as well or that the pretty or expensive ones will automatically be better. A rifle with a headache, that's good.

As an aside the ugly ones are almost always a low dollar investment with outstanding returns of your money, The opposite is also true the prettiest are usually high dollar with minimal returns.

You need to re-read your statement. The first part contradicts the second. Regardless, speak for your self on that one. My wife I qualifies as "high maintenance" but who cares, she's been with me for 23 years, I've never been happier, she's drop-dead gorgeous and so what if she costs me a bunch to maintain? Ugly and or fat chicks are a lot like the junk rifles you seem to wear like a badge of honor in that they are a lot of fun...until your friends see you with one.

I bought my first high power rifle (actually my dad had to buy it but I paid for it) when I was 15, a No. IMKIII Enfiled that I still have. Lots of fun to shoot, and I'm sure it probably killed lots of bad guys and all that stuff, but with myriad affordable hunting rifles available today (hell, you can buy a Weatherby Vanguard for under 350 bucks at Wal-Mart) it's just plain bad headwork to go out hunting with something that holds a 3" group. Why take a chance? I have lots of other military rifles, I just don't hunt with them. jorge

I use them for target practice, shooting off hand with a sling and I have a CAR-15 for the house. As to the second post, doubt it, think I'll pass, I don't like your taste in rifles. jorge

hey
I have a friend that has the best rifles you can buy. He cant shoot worth a ------------- but when he has a problem he has me or another person shoot it and we usually have moa groups. The same person bought a high end gear for an elk hunt. got one in the sights and nothing, nothing at all. the lube got thick and the firing pin didnt have the guts to set the primer off. I equate the equipment to Ken Howells post on making a camp fire. Some can most dont know how. I personally know alot of hunters who have the best of everything and shoot their guns twice a year and may clean it every 3 years before they trade it in for the next best. They dont shoot any better then mine. What you use dont matter to me just dont say my old lady is ugly because them are fighten words just like the junk I use. I reconise the need to brag here on what they have, like I am inpressed, But someone might be. Some here want to be a player with alot of talk. I have no need for these folks. You treat me with respect I will return it 10 times over.
You shoot your gun I shoot mine.

Had I said always in the second statement I might agree with you. My wife sounds a lot like yours and we have been together since 1972. Were we seem to disagree is I don't think there is anything wrong with ugly chicks, fat chicks, or junk rifles. Their appearance has very little to do with who they are.
My friends have seen my rifles and don't care what they look like or what they are, if they did we probably wouldn't be friends, must be tough to have to worry about such a thing. I know you are a Weatherby person and that's ok, but it doesn't make me want to pay $350 for something I don't like. Also nothing wrong with hunting with a rifle that only produces a 3" group as long as you mind the range. My first center fire was also an Enfield a No. 4 mk1, I also still have it and yes I have hunted with it. It will hold a 3" group barely, but I have never taken a shot over about 150 yards so it never bothered me. No badge of honor, I like a few of the more expensive ones too, just don't think they are necessary to hunt with, don't mean I would not buy one.

Apparently, the term "tongue in cheek" escapes some here. There is nothing wrong with shooting or hunting with {sic} junk rifles, but to say that those of us who don't or can afford better rigs do so because we're snobs is just not true. Finally, I'm not much for impressing other people. I mainly worry about impressing myself, I don't hide behind "handles" or phony locations as my profile clearly indicates who I am and where i'm from. jorge

Great pictures, looks like you have been at it for a long time.

If you don't have any photo correcting software, let me know.

If you would like me to remove the red from that picture of you as a kid, PM me back, and I'll give you my email so you can send me a 300 dpi file to fix and return for you.

It would just take a minute.

Do you have your tonque in your cheek again?
Your the one who called yourself a snob not me. I think snobs can go both ways, those that shoot expensive rifles and call anything less junk and those that shoot less expensive rifles and show distain for the expensive ones, either way it's phony. Well I've cooled off a little so will leave the impressing statement alone. You think Utah is a phony location??? You might want to take a geography class at night and therapy during the day for your ego issues.

Don't et your panties in a wad there "Snuffy." When one hits the reply button or just does a quick reply, it looks like the post addresses the previous poster, it wasn't directed at you.

Maybe you can take grammar lessons while I'm taking anti-ego therapy, but when you see the prefix {sic} being used it means you are quoting somebody else. I never said I was a snob and I never said mil-surps were junk, just that for about the same money, you can hunt with a resonable hunting rifle designed for just that. As to my ego, yep, you got me there.

It's a malady that afflicts most of us in military aviation. It's tough to be humble. jorge

i will chim in here. that a 1000 dollar rifle is needed alot better than 300 dollar glass.

600 bucks might get you decent glass on 300 dolllar rifle. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />
