Obama won the popular and electoral vote too...which reiterares why Joe Average ain't much of a cornerstone for picking a winner.

Which would be the point...................

At a table at a small 1/2 day gun show Saturday, I had a 280 Rem M70 PF for sale. The ONLY comments were along the lines of "What is that?", "I never heard of it." and "What's it look like?"

There are a lot of cult fans of the 270 out there. The 280 never got the press the 270's got but from actual use the 280 is just a better caliber from my experiences. Bullet performance on game from the 270 is nothing like the 280. I've been able to do so much more with the 280 in the 140-160 grain range of bullets that Ive loaded than any of the 5-6 270's Ive had. Got rid of all the 270's and still have my 280 and 280 AI. My 7mm-08 does better than any 270 Ive ever owned. The 270 is just way over-rated and is a weak offering on the 06 case but the press says otherwise.

My first rifle that I bought with my money was a 280, followed closely by a 7RM, and a couple of 270's in following years. Have shot/loaded/killed more than a few creatures with 270/280/7RM. I wouldn't want to have my face behind any 280 doing 3150 with 140's. My 280 AI Improved (SAUM) will do it but I consider it top end. 2950 with 160's is also dreaming with a 280. Again that is reserved for the 280 AII and only with drop tubing H1000 into the hull.

These threads are a bit comical. Really does it really matter beyond 400 yards? You can't change the physics of bullet drop.

Although I did hear if you mount your scope higher...... wink

Lets start over Bobin,

7mm-08
7x57
280
284
7mm Remington Mag
7mm WSM
7mm WBY MAG
7mm STW
And on down the line > > >

270
270 WSM
270 Weatherby

If this bullet diameter is so great all the above would have been .277 or .270 something or other !

It's not any huge secret, the 7mm bullet diameter is better !
The .280 can do everything the .270 can do with light bullets, but that is where it ends ! The .280 then ends the conversation after the 150 gr. bullet for the .270 ! Thus making the .280 a more versatile round, enabling good performance with 160's-175's ! No argument ! Period ! Prove it wrong ! YOU CANT !

Does the even longer 30 caliber list make it better than the 7mm?

smile

If a person can get the job done to his satisfaction with any particular cartridge, why does someone else's preference matter?

Can any of the 7mm's fit an AR15 like the 270 (6.8) SPC?

Just because there is a difference in things doesn't automatically mean one must be objectively better than the other.

My point being bcp is that the commercial market design around the 270 is pointless ! You cant make anything with superior ballistics over whats out there ! If the 280 would have been the 1925 design, there would be even a shorter list for the 270, probably "0" ! I wont quote the Godfather, because people here tend to not like him talking bad about their stick !

K~

My edit : Whoever knows what I have shot and didnt or owned what I have owned, please give me the score of tonights MNF ! The man is waiting on my wager ! I have 4-280's right now and 2-270's ! From 700 mtn rifle to custom 700's ! Dont think you even know anything about me !

Yeah.....007" makes a HUGE difference. crazy

I've always preferred the 280 to the 270 since I got my first in '67. But I really preferred it just because it was different, not because of some illusion that it was really better. The two cartridges are way too close for there to be any significant difference. Given similar bullet designs, you could use either one for the rest of your life and never see any difference in on-game performance.

If the subject matter was Plymouth 360 c.i. versus Chevrolet 350 c.i. versus Ford 351 c.i. the arguments would all be the same.
