A gun shop near me has the stainless version on sale. I know they aren't a Kimber, but do any of you have any experience with them?

I have a CD 1911. Mine is the full size blue model. You will hear a lot of folks bad mouth them, but mine has been no problem at all. It has several thousand rounds through it, and it feeds everything that I put in it. I can get one big ragged hole at twenty five yards if I do my job.
The only modifications that I have made to mine are replacement grips and an 18# Wolff mainspring. The grips were because I wanted nice double diamond cocobolo ones rather than the factory plastic ones. The mainspring was because the factory one just seemed a little spongy. It did function just fine with the factory mainspring though.
If you're reluctant to take my word for it, take a look at Paco Kelly's article over at Sixgunner.com. His opinion is usually fairly unbiased. He tends to "tell it like it is", and he had nothing but praise for it.
Someone here will probably tell me that I am full of it, but IMHO the CD 1911 is a good value for the price you pay. I have nothing against the Kimbers and SAs. They are quality guns. I do, however, have one friend with a Kimber. Everytime we go to the range his Kimber hiccups in some way (stovepipes, misfeeds, etc.), but my CD just keeps on plugging away. I, of course, NEVER needle him about how my 1911 cost a good $500 LESS than his. ;-)

Stush: Thanks for taking the time to respond. Your recommendation was instrumental in helping me make my decision to get it. I also got introduced to Sixgunner.com which looks like a neat site, and I didn't even know it existed. Thanks again and good shooting.
