If you were going to buy a scope primarily for 100-yard range use and were going to buy a fixed power scope, what would be the minimum power to buy?

20x would be my minimum. 25x is a little better for spotting .22 holes.

If you don't want alot of power the Bushnell 3200 10x is a great little scope with repeatable adjustments and decent glass.

I concur with the above recommendations, though, if you're looking to get higher magnification. A good Weaver T36 would be hard to beat and they're not all that expensive either, about $400 if I recall correctly.

I would think 10x, but I've never had a gun that was just for 100yd range use, so I may be way off.

That depends upon exactly what your use will be, formal benchrest, informal short range, just plinking ????? need more info.

ralphbeagle,

I'm with the at least 20X group. When shooting for John I used a 36X Leupold at 50 yards for a .22 aritcle he did. Didn't seem like too much to me.

Ummm.....I was thinking either 3 or 4 power, but not sure what the question really is.

Are you talking benchrest type shooting, or a "hunting" rifle to be used at the range?

For some reason I was thinking "range scope" meant a spotting scope, hence the 20X recommendation.

For a scope sight on a rifle for 100 yard max it would depend on the rifle. For a .223/.243 class, 10x. For anything bigger, probably 6X.
