I just won a $1500 Basspro gift card in a sales contest. I am interested in an AR but the only gun they can get is the remington r15. I am interested in some first hand reports on how they perform. I would use the gun for target and as a varmint rig.

I don't think you can go wrong with the R-15 for a calling rifle. I would get it in 204 Ruger .

If it would be his first AR, he might want to get it in the more standard chambering of 5.56x45/.223 Rem. Of course, on the other hand, he could get it in .204 and then buy an upper that was chambered in 5.56x45 (I'm assuming the R-15 will interchange uppers like any other AR-15).

Do those all come camouflage RealTree or Mossy Oak or one of those types...?
Would it be difficult to match an upper and a lower?

Since it would be my 1st AR I was thinking 223 because there are so many ammo options. What are your thoughts on barrel length 18 or 22?

I have one in 223 w/ the 18" barrel and love it. I have the best luck w/ Hornady 55gr. VMAX. I will say it is loud, so if that might bother ya, get the 22" barrel. You outta be able to get it outfitted nicely for $1500 to.

I bought the R-15 .223 in the 22 inch last year. I have a Leopold 4X-12X on top of it for varmit work.

Accuracy is outstanding with Hornady 60 gr Sp and 60 gr V-Max with Hodgdon benchmark powder.

My partner bought the R-15 18 inch barrel model and it really cracks.

I have the carbiine with the collapsable stock in 223. As for calling its great. Deer killing, very fun. Pig smokin, great for wiping out the whole bunch. All round great rifle and a bunch a fun.

I wouldnt own it in any other caliber if I was only limited to 1.

Im looking for the 30 RAR to show up around here, I will have one.

The Remington ARs are built by Bushmaster. They might need to be tricked out with a nice trigger but are otherwise good to go!

I have the R15 with the 18" bbl, 6 pos stock a PEPR base & nikon 6-24x44 scope on it. Its one of my go to coyote rigs, light enough to carry on a 5 mile calling loop.
It is very accurate, the trigger is heavy, It needs to be replaced if you want a sweet trigger. Its fine for regular hunting though. 300 yards is nothing for it also.

I've a 22-incher with Max 50's and a Leupold Mk4 M3 6x(though I had a 3.5-10x M3 on it outta the gate). Pard drives an 18" and a Holosight first,but went 6x42 with M1's later.
