Headed for a May 2012 plains game hunt in Northern RSA. Can't decide on a hunt pant. What say you?

I like the versatility of "zip off" pants. In the mornings when it's a bit chilly you have pants. Around mid-day you can zip them off easily and be in shorts. Cabelas has several different offerings.

light weight Carhartt jeans. I wore the 12 oz. ones in July of 2008 to northern RSA [limpopo], and they were perfect. Going to get 2 pr. of the 8.5 oz. carhartts in brown and green for my trip to Zim., next August. Also going to use long sleeve carhartt shirts.

I used 6 pocket paramedic pants, uniform issue. They were past service usable so work pants for home. 80/20 cotton/polyester that started as 16 oz when new but were soft and subtle and probably only 12 oz. Pockets for everything needed and since I have worn the same type for 30 years there was no need to get used to them.

Any decent uniform supply place would have them and they are relatively cheap.

Any light to medium weight loose fitting cotton pants in a dark earth tone are fine. Lots of good choices, Even Wrangler camo and dark green Dickies work pants. Just avoid bright colors including blue and light so called 'british khaki' as light colors stand out to game in most environs.

If I don't wear jeans, I wear Cabela's Trail shorts with a 5" inseam, but thay have WAY too many pockets.

On three trips to the northern part of the Limpopo Province in RSA, I simply chose Wrangler's Angler Pants in khaki color.

100% cotton, comfortable, and relatively inexpensive.

Whatever you get, expect to tear it up on thorns. Disposable is good.
