Here's a decent buck I took yesterday in the Delta. Photos are deceiving, but he tapes out at 180", despite a 14.5" spread 6.5" base on the heavy side; 23" beams; 15" of trash off the G2's Gotta love the December rut!

Go ahead. Was he chasing?

Great buck pard! I've been on here saying MS. is one of the best kept whitetail secrets in the country. Glad to see other folks posting Magnolia bucks that prove it. The implementation of Minimums such as main beam length have had a positive impact, even on public lands. being that alot of deer released in the Delta and South West Mississippi were brought here from Wisconsin during the 30's, the genetic pool has always been there. They just needed to get some age on them. JM

Details for those interested...
40 acre oat field surrounded by bedding cover. Already passed up 7 or 8 other bucks that morning, including a 3.5 y/o 120" 8 ptr who was harassing a doe, but she wan't quite ready. Most of the bucks would walk to within 2 or 3 yards of the field and look it over for does, but wouldn't come all the way out.
Around 9am, another doe stepped out of cover at the field edge 250 yards away and fed on acorns. I got ready, then saw this buck behind her just inside the woods feeding on red oak acorns as well. The buck I passed on earlier was also there, behind the other two. The buck was directly facing me, so it took a few seconds to confirm he was fully mature. I had just about decided to take him when he looked up and in my direction- that's when I saw how narrow he was and started second guessing my decision to take him... and you know what they say, 'if you have to think about it, he's probably not a shooter'. I continued to look him over for another minute or so, but just couldn't get over the mass... I added him up in my head- looked to be mid 140's class deer plus another 10" or so of trash off the g2's. Screw it, I'm shooting, as he's gotta be mid 150's total despite the narrow spread.
The whole time, he never turned fully broadside, and just kept gobbling up acorns. The doe eventually got full and turned to head back into the woods, so I knew it was crunch time. I waited for him to pick up his head, then pulled the trigger. 250 yards- straight on shot; 7mm WSM, 140gr Accubonds, 3300fps MV pole-axed him lengthwise through the body and he dropped without a quiver.
I didn't realize I underestimated his score until I got to him and saw he was even more massive than I was expecting.
208 lbs live wt at least 4.5 y/o (can't get to the last molar to check wear until the taxidermist pulls the jawbone)

Main beam length minimums? How much? Our AR's are based on spread.
