An all steel Combat Commander; S&W K-38 rear sight, custom red insert front sight.

Was my main carry gun for >20 years, very accurate & completely reliable; today I mostly carry a S&W PD Gunsite Commander size 1911 with a Scandium frame mainly because of the lighter weight.

Skeeter Skelton did a torture test with 5000+ rounds in a Gold Cup, and a Commander, 30+ years ago. The alloy frame did crack after 5000 rounds, but was still serviceable. The Gold Cup, for what it's worth, was just as accurate as when it started.

I like commanders, too. grin One of these days I need to find a correct-rollmark 9mm or .45 Series 80 top end for the alloy frame I have, and get it running again.

I also need to bite the bullet one of these days and get a project Commander to bobtail. grin

Hawkeye, perhaps for the average JOE who just buys a pistol to have and gather dust. Not for the guy who enjoys shooting 2 or 3 times a week and fires two hundred rounds a sessons right?

Nonetheless the Commander is a slick pistol with great looks It's light weight is an advantage to someone who intends to carry this weapon for extended hours during the day.
