Anyone know how much a Mini-Mauser action weighs? I emailed Charles Daly several times about this and they finally said 3.25 lbs. I have a hard time believing this is the true weight. Thanks

from a prior thread, you can probably guesstimate it:
Remington 700 short ADL ............. 2lb 3.5oz Remington 700 short BDL .............2lb 4oz Remington 700 long ADL ..............2lb 6.5oz Remington 700 long BDL ..............2lb 7oz Remington 600 .......................1lb 15oz Remington 788 long (.243, .308) .....2lb 11oz Remington 7..........................2lb 2oz Mauser Mark X .......................2lb 15oz Sako medium (current production) ....2lb 5oz Sako long ...........................2lb 13oz Ruger short dovetail receiver .......2lb 6oz Ruger long dovetail receiver ........2lb 8.5oz Weatherby Model 70 post-64 ..........2lb 13oz Weatherby Mark V .................... 3lb 3oz
Don't see the mini mauser, but you might find it if you look harder. I just searched "action weight" and picked this one.

I think that 3.25 lbs is a little high, but they are not light. My sometimes gunsmith buddy Julio showed me one a while back and I thought that it was mebbe 2 lb 12 oz. or so. That included the heavy bottom metal.
I like the idea of the mini for a small cased cartridge, but you won't end up with a real light rifle (of course that may not be your goal)

Sounds like something Mini-Me (Austin Powers movies) would want: a mini-mauser. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

We slicked one up. Put on a featherweight-style barrel in .20 caliber, and a nice slim stock. An Ultra-light Leupold scope too. Came in at 6lb 1oz. all up. Bare rifle was 5lb 8oz.
Next one, I'll pay more attention to the weight of the blank. See if I can hit 5lb even with a .270 bore.

Rod:
Did you use a light trigger guard and replace the mag box?? On the one example that I saw, those pieces looked heavy. That action seems like a nice fit for maybe a 270X39mm or some such.

The trigger guard and mag box are not very heavy. We left them as is, except for reshaping the rear of the bow and taking about .100 out of the mag box height.
Our stock design is very trim, which means we had to decrease the space between bottom metal and receiver. The factory trigger is pretty darn good. The safety, such as it is, works OK, but I rather have an aftermarket M70 type on there. We reduce striker fall from around .400 to .260, which is plenty given the mass of the assembly. A fair amount of polishing and smoothing. Definitely lap the lugs. And bend the bolt handle downward 1/4". Won't clear scopes otherwise unless you mount them unnecessarily high.
I think the ideal cartridge for this action is the 6.8mm SPC and by gosh, one's on the way. Think 110gr TSX at about 2800fps - maybe a little better. We call it TigerCat.

My Interarms Minimauser in 270X39 is 6lbs. 10oz. with a one piece scope base and steel rings. It has a walnut stock. It is a very accurate rifle and a great rifle for a young person. Butch
