Only have two: a Kimber compact classic, and a full sixe Taurus. Both run without a hitch, and the Taurus is a great value for the money.

No Kimber nor Colt ever ticked me off. Tho I've only owned a total of 4 1911's - a drop compared to most.

I have two Sig 1911's and they are great guns right out of the box.

I have seen Classic II's (base gun) Kimber's for right around $700 locally. They are fantastic guns. There is a reason why Kimber owns the 1911 market; great value for the money. I handled a new Colt the other day, and I had a flashback to early 90's when I bought a new 1991 Colt; same tolerances, not near as tight as Kimbers. They work just fine. Remington missed the market with their gun; half Mil-Spec, half newer style. Tauruses and Sig's look a bit funny to me, just not classical 1911, good guns I hear. Smith probably is a good gun, but I cannot get over them lasering what seems like the whole owners manual on the gun. Springfield is a nice gun too, but just for a few dollars more you are in a Kimber. If you can swing a Wilson, Nighthawk or Les Baer, those are all very nice guns.

I have had a Kimber Eclipse Pro II for over seven years, like it very much. Very reliable, accurate, outstanding trigger out of the box. It has a 4" bull barrel, bushing integral to slide. Kimber makes others of this configuration w/ rounded edges, this might be what you're looking for, although I've carried mine a great deal and have no complaints. BTW, there's one exactly like this in the classifieds right now...

I bought a S&W 1911 PD in Commander length (4.25" bbl) for just over $1,000. I've fired over 2,000 rounds through it and never a bobble. It is accurate and light weight.

Try a les baer. It can be had with a 1 1/2 inch accuracy guarentee. Meprolight night sights from kimber are slightly bigger and therefore better for my eyes.
A person can spend alot of money trying to get an accurate 1911. Even though the les baer's are expensive, they will be more accurate than a custom if not equal and cheaper, and will save money in the long run by getting what you want up front.
Have you shot a 1911 much and are you accurate in shooting one. pistols can be hard to shoot and with the different brands out there a person may find they shoot a sig or HK more accurate than a comparable 1911.

Another vote for Kimber. I'm not as bullish on their rifles, but I have no qualms about their pistols. (And yes, I own both).

I like the Kimbers, though I have to say upfront that they are the only 1911's I have owned thus far. However, I wouldn't mind a Wilson Combat CQB(if I ever won the lottery).

matt +1 That is some really great advise. By one and enjoy it for the rest of your life. You can spend a LOT of money getting an accurate 1911...make no mistake about that!

Peaeye, Don't decide til after SHOT. The long rumored 1911 project from a Major manufacturer appears to have reached fruition.
Hint: it starts with Rug and ends with er.

Dan Wesson Valor. I love my Kimbers, but they are not nearly as nice a the Valor series. IMO you have to spend 2000$ or more to get a pistol of the quality as the Dan Wesson. +1 on the Valor. I got mine a couple of years ago for $1500. I have noticed they have gone up in price, but they are worth every penny. Exude quality. Lots of Ed Brown parts too!
