Im looking to upgrade the scope on my target rifle. Currently, I have a VX II in a 6-18. The gun is a M700 varmint rifle with a HS stock in a .308
The gun is primarily a target rifle. It gets shot at 300 yards 1-2 times a week and 1-2 times a month out to 1000. I dont do any competition, although I have a few friends who are pretty serious about it who are always pushing me to get out and do it. There may be some F class shooting in the future, although I would go mainly for fun and to learn more rather then as a serious competitor. I do occasionally hunt with this rifle when shots could be long and weight is not an issue.
I was originally looking at a night force 5.5-22, but my friend recommended looking at Vortex scopes. The Vortex Viper in a 6-24 caught my eye. My biggest concern is that they are a relatively new company and dont really have a proven track record like night force.
The biggest priority I have would be that the scope tracks correctly. If it wasnt designed to be repeatedly adjusted from 100 to 1000 yards, then it is probably not what Im looking for. My second priority would be clear glass.
For hunting at a max range of 500 and informal shooting out to 1000 would I really see much benefit in getting a NF?
I also am looking at a mark 4 in 6.5-20 as another possibility. Given my intended use, what do you think?
