drover,
thats a nice rifle you have. I think its a mistake for Winchester to go to a 20" barrel. they have previously been 22" on standard calibers and that has always seemed to me to be the perfect balance of portability and balistic efficiency.

drover,
sounds like a winner!
My two brothers and I have stainless/walnut fwt's.
a 22-250,30-06 and mines a 300wm. I wanted to get a 270 but I was impatient and bought the 300.

I have to agree, a 20" barrel on the Win. Featherweight is a big mistake. That will really screw up the balance of that rifle(it will feel really butt heavy).

Who makes these decisions?

The featherweight barrel will remain 22 inches with 24 inches for magnum cartridges. They are re-introducing the Compact and calling it a Featherweight Compact. It will have a 20 inch barrel. The classic compacts had 20 inch barrels and where a very nice little rifle.

Whew!!!.....that is good to hear. Yes, the classic compact was a nice little rifle.

Now if we can just get them to produce the featherweight in standard long and short action calibers for us lefties; that would really be good news!

Thanks, it is my favorite 243. It is one of those rifles that is uncannily consistent and accurate, everything it is pointed at just tips over.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.
