I bought a Remington 721 project rifle and it turns out that this might be an unfinished custom project rifle rather than a hunting rifle with broken/missing parts. After bore scoping the local gunsmith said he would be surprized if it had ever been fired. It also closes perfectly on Go gage.

Anyway, it is missing both the extractor and ejector and because of the modifications to the bolt face he suggests the only way to fix it properly is doing the Sako extractor conversion.

Any thoughts? Any other options?

Depends on the modifications done to the bolt face. Sako extractors are frequently put on Rem bolts. Some feel that the Sako extractor is a better system than the stock Rem.Rick.

Methinks if the bolt has been modified so as to not accept the original parts it may be beyond saving(safely).
need more detail.

If it is missing the extractor, no matter what size the bolt face is and as long as it has not yet been modified, I can install a Sako extractor in it for $105. Email me.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but do Sako extractors cause the brass to be flung into the scope. It has been my experience on magnum cartridges that this is the case, but I'm not sure on the .308 case head.

Celt converted a std bolt to a magnum bolt with the Sako for me a couple years ago. I was very skeptical of this mod. However, it has performed flawlessly.

It ejects fine. The bolt face also stays cleaner. It is VERY reliable. I know it must weaken the bolt, but it must not weaken it enough to be significant.
