Just bought a boat - First one we've had in many years - and want to get back into some fishing. Kentucky is primarily large impoundments that are CoE for flood control and we see water fluctuations of 20 ft or more annually. One of teh nearby lakes is known to hae good walleye fishing, but I have never fished for them. Can you guys provide soem tips that may help? baits? depth? water temps? structure?

Call you DNR fisheries biologist for your area. He should be able to help you with walleye records they keep on population samples, spawning sites etc he should share with you.

on the lake we troll for them using a bottom bouncer and everything from a single float and a hook to elaborate rigs with multiple floats, beads and spinners using crawlers, leeches and minnows for bait.......occasionally run crank baits and will jig for them immediately post spawn....
bank fishing on the river we just use a hook with a minnow on it kept bout a foot off the bottom.....
walleye are finicky SOB's some days and will take alot of fine tuning to get them to bite.....other days they will hit nearly anything....
should tell you we fish for them for the table, if yah want a fun fish to catch they rate pretty low, when yah catch a good sized one it has all the fight of pulling up a log most the time....a one pound smallmouth will fight harder than a 9 pound walleye.....

My son lives in central KS. Folks here drift fish on the bottom in the spring and troll in the summer. One thing that my son discovered was that trolling a chrome/blk back or a red "Hot n Tot" in 15-20' of water during April and May is sometimes very productive. Good luck.
