Anyone using this bullet for deer? If so how does it work?
Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

'Though I'm posting in the wrong forum, yes it will work for deer, but don't expect an exit every time! I've seen it fail to exit coyotes, but still very capable of killing deer with good shot placement!

I have used it for hogs in Alabama and it worked just fine out of a 223 bolt gun. Put the bullet in the boiler room and you will have meat. The load I am using is Varget in LC brass. Velocity is 3050 fps out of a 24" barrel.

I agree I've taken several deer with the 223. I was just wondering how this bullet penetrates and expands. What does it do if you hit bone?

I used it on three antelope and a couple deer in a 9 twist 223 and it performed very well. No bones hit and pass through on all including a lope at 410 yards. Sierra confirmed the bullet is constructed for game "up to large Whitetails" when I asked them. It does have a little heavier jacket.
It is superbly accurate in the 9 twist Stealth 223 and my 223 AI (1/8)with a case full of VV540. I also use it for a coyote bullet with good results. I like it.

That is good advice. I tested a bunch of .224 bullets in 2009 and 2010 into dry phonebooks at 100 yards. 65 gk performed similar to 63 gr sierra, 70 grain speer, 55 grain hornady sp. 60 grain hornady sp was better than them all and 64 grain powerpoint was even better than that. The 60 grain partition was a bit better than the pp but both had about 20 % less penetration than the 53 gr TSX. This was from a 1/14 twist 22250 at mv of 3300 fps. Did not measure retained wt, just how deep the hole was. Of course, deer are not made of phone books but dry phonebooks put some stress on bullets and was neat to compare performance.

I have shot a few springbucks and a few roe deer with them and found them to be very deadly. A bit soft, though, probably due to the 3,550fps at which my 5,6x57 launches them. At lower velocities they would penetrate a bit more, I guess. BBerg

That's the kind of info that I come to the 'Fire to get.

Use a TSX sums it up, but for some reason only 3 words freak folks out.

Hello Colin, What was you best powder/primer combo using the 64gr.PP and the 53gr. TSX in your 1:14 22-250? Thx

35 gr IMR 4895 with the TSX cci 200 primers. I did not have enough TSX bullets to do much load development. It was just point and shoot to test the bullet basically.
I have had excellent accuracy with the 64 gr using win brass, 34-35 grains IMR 4895 with cci 200 primers. Oal is 2.395 which is about 10 thou of the lands in my gun. 20 inch bbl gets around 3300 fps and 3 shot groups are moa or a bit better.

Colin, your getting 3300 with the 64gr PP in a 20" barrel?

Yes Sir, I noticed it was a 22-250. I was interested because I'm thinking about getting a 22-250 sporter with a 22" barrel. I'm wondering what kind of velocity to expect with a shorter than 24" barrel...

What 224 TSX ? I have a bunch of kills with the 65 Sierra. No reason to doubt it will work given less than a DSMF in charge

I have not killed anything bigger than coyotes with them but they have performed very well. All have had around a quarter sized exit and a very dead dog.
