It started it's life as Classic Model 70 in 7mm Mag (If I remember correctly). After some gunsmithing it's now a .300 H&H Mag. Which is what I shot my last deer with (200grn NP's).
It is not enough to fight for natural land and the west; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it's still there. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends...

Recently aquired Savage 99 EG .300 Savage and a 99 C in .308 w/ Redfield 3x9. Plan on giving them both some opportunity.

I will be carrying a newly traded for Remington 141, 1949 vintage, in 35 remington. I should be receiving a Redfield receiver sight for it the first part of this week and will have it sighted in shortly. I will be going after deer in high class this year because I will have my Marlin 336 also in 35 Remington in backup. First time I will have a "backup rifle." Could you pass the Grey Poupon for the venison.

I intend to hunt some open soybean field with my new to me model 70 classic sporter in .300 Weatherby. Also just today I ordered a rifle I have had the can't helpits for, for quite some time. It is a Ruger 77 ultralight chambered for .257 Roberts. A couple years back, I hunted with a fullsize Ruger 77 chambered for the Roberts, the results I got were entirely satisfactory, but I wanted a rifle with just a little less weight. The Ultralight should be just the ticket. I also ordered 50 pieces of brass and 50 Nosler accubonds (110 grain). Can't wait to smack one with one of those little meanies!

Hello, I hunted for 40 years with a 30/40 Krag;still don't know a better gun for woodland deer hunting. A few years ago,I decided to try using something smaller;a Winchester '94 in 30/30 caliber. I had great success with it,but recently had health problems. So this Fall I'll be using a GICarbine semi auto in 30 Carbine caliber;someting smaller yet. I know that the vast majority of kills with the Krag could be done with the Win '94. I also think that most of them could be done with the GICarbine. I'll never know unless I try. Frank

I always have to have a project gun going. This year I picked up a used 110 270 package gun that showed no signs of use for 200.00. Literaly threw the cheapo 3-9 and mounts away. My first purchase was a 3200 2x7 and weaver mounts, then a Timney trigger set at 31/2 lbs and finaly a laminated stock,,,,,,,,,,shoots consistently sub MOA. Inexpensive and fun......Essex

I've been using a Remington .30-06 and have had great success. My father bought me a .444 Marlin when I returned from the Gulf in 1991 and I have yet to take a deer with it. I just haven't hunted with it. This year I will buy a scope for it, probably a Bushnell Banner, and hopefully take a whitetail. It's long overdue and my father will love hearing the story.

I have a Belgian Browning Safari Grade that might come out of the safe if it isn't raining. Its a common 30-06. If it rains I will use my 35 Whelen. It leaves a blood trail that is short and wide. GWN

Another guy weighing in with a "new" Savage 99. Very nice EG in 308. Its a shooter but it has to become a producer. I'll take along the proven 250/3000 just in case. RP

In my area of Mn. Slugs. It doesn't matter what I use to deliver the 1oz of lead.
Out west I'll use a A-Bolt S/S in .25WSSM with a Leupold VX-II 3X9. I'll be useing 120gr'ers cas the rifle shoots them very well.
I'll have to come up with somthing to tighten up the 85gr'ers and maybe I'll try for some yote's.

I would be if I could get teh Vanguard to shoot less than 2 inches (and that is the best it can do!) My brother works for a Weatherby repair shop, so he took it in. Most groups ran 3 - 4 inches, on the same days that I shot 1/2-inch or smaller groups with other guns. I tried all kinds of loads and bullets. The best were Federal PRemiums with 130 gr Ballistic Tips at about 2-inches.
I was surprised to find out that the Vanguards are test-targeted (the one you get with the rifle) as just a barreled action in a fixture, then shipped to Weatherby who stocks them. Once in a stock, of course, they or may not shoot that well,,,,
So, I will use my 1903 Springfield MKI - with its original barrel and the right lo0ad, it shoots about 5/8 inch groups regularly.

On your vangard you might try cutting up an old credit card and place a piece under the front lug (witch should float the barrel). Try a group or two. It sound like the presure pad on the stock might need work. If I remember right, Vangards were touchy To the torque when putting on the stock. I do not remember to torque specs though.
