I just ordered Lee Collet dies for my Rem700 .300 WSM and Browining .308 BLR (i.e., a lever gun). I already have Redding bullet seater and body dies for both rifles. Should I also order crimp dies for the .300 WSM and/or .308 or is the .001" bullet grip of the LCD adequate for hunting purposes?

Thanks

I've never had an issue with my bullets moving but my LCD's are .002" under instead of .001.

Don't think you will be happy using them on your 300 wsm. The short fats need to have the shoulder set back just a tad to chamber well. At least that seems to be the case with most. I know mine would not work with the collets. ALL of the NON short fats in bottle neck configuration have worked perfectly (3006, 2506, 308, etc). I hope your situation works out well.

Excellent point JMP.

I forgot that my WSMs didn't care for neck sizing one bit and for the exact same reason you state.

That's disconcerting. Just so I'm understanding correctly - will I be fine/"happy" using a LCD as long as I use the Redding Body Die each time I reload for my .300 WSM (i.e., If I don't use the .300 WSM LCD for NECK SIZING ONLY)? Or, does this mean a LCD for a .300 WSM is never a good idea (i.e., I will ALWAYS be unhappy with my .300 WSM LCD regardless of how it is used)?

BTW - thanks for all for the excellent thread.

The body die should give the bump the WSM shoulder needs.

I will defer to mathman on that one as I either use LCD's or FL sizing dies. Have not ventured to the body die area.

Think of the body die as a FL die, but with its neck bored oversize. Sort of like the mirror image of a conventional neck die.

I disagree,I can feel the sizing taking place towards the end of the stroke and when it feels 'just right', I know the die is adjusted the way I want it.

+1!!! I fireform my 300WSM cases and then run them through my LCD just like any other cartridge. If they don't chamber easily, I'll run them through the body die and then the LCD.

Great set of dies

Lee Collet Neck Sizer
Redding Body Die
Redding Competition Seater

throw your concentricity gauge away and just load and shoot!

BTW most of my mandrels that came with the die were .002" below caliber.

Just got a LCD in the mail yesterday for a .300 win mag. The mandrel is .003 below caliber @ .305".
