Where do you guys buy WC860 surplus powder and who has the best price? <br> <br>I have read that it can be purchased for as little a $2.00- 5.00 per pound. <br> <br>That reminds me of the old H4831. Actually bought a 50 pound keg of that many, many years ago for 50 cents/lb. <br> <br>Thanks, <br> <br>Ted

scott - <br>Picked this up at another site (verrrry interesting site if you're into Long Range shooting, by the way -www.longrangehunting.com). Posted by a well respected Long Range shooter. <br> <br>"The WC860 is faster then H870 and yes, it is heat sensitive in hot weather. The WC860 I have had is about the same burning rate as H4831." <br> <br>User discretion advised. <br> <br>R-WEST <br> <br>
Load smart. Load safe. Triple check everything. Never use load data from the 'net without checking against known, pressure tested load data. Typo's happen!!

Just keep in mind that different lot #s of surplus powders can vary widely. The WC860 which I have (from Bartlett) is WAY slower than H4831

Bill, <br> <br>Did you ever try Wc860 in your 270 Wby? The reason for my query in the beginning of this thread was to try it in mine. It should be here on Thursday. <br> <br>Thanks again for your help earlier, <br> <br>Ted

Yukoner, No I haven't tried the WC860 in the .270 WBY as yet. Two things are holding me back so far. The first is that I have several lbs of RL25 left and an RL 25 load which does the trick. The second thing is the lack of an available canister powder that's close to the WC860 to use to correlate loads. There's just not that much .270 WBY pressure data out there, and this cartridge is operating at a pretty high pressure level, a little close to the edge for wild-assed guess work in load development.
