DJ,
Absolutely fantastic. Smiled the whole time I was reading...

Keep up the good work.

Wow! Man, what a story! You write better than our phone conversations. You held out on me. You've got to have some of these published. Great job (not just hunting), and tell the young hunter CONGRATULATIONS! Amigo

Wow, what a story.
Congrats to you and your daughter.
Thanks, Tom! I didn't get in every detail, but figured it was already too long, and I think we hit the highlights pretty well. DJ

Coolest thing I've heard all day; and the memories it evoked of similar pursuits rate your telling of it a big A+! Congrats to you both! Really glad the post refreshed good memories! Was part of the goal, and am hoping to hear more about other great hunts. DJ

Dwayne,
Once again, thank you for your encouraging words which are much too gracious, yet very much appreciated.
Means an awful lot coming from the statesman of the 'Fire who has done more than anyone to encourage families to hunt, spend time together, and generally love and appreciate each other.
I am extremely grateful for your presence and influence here, as I believe are many others.
I am kicking around seeing if I could do a little outdoor writing of some kind. Not sure I can write about anything but taking my children hunting, but I do enjoy that!
Thanks again, my friend!

Lots of good memories right there! Way to go Dad! Congrats to little hunter. Much obliged, Bigwhoop. Good memories, indeed - and the fun and rush of seeing her pull it off was something special! DJ

Hunting just doesn't get any better than that. Outstanding!

Good Night Dick!...............fantastic story to the hunt, I thought for a minute I was there along side!!!
Congratulations to your daughter !!!!
CK
I'm really pleased you enjoyed it. For me, it is always the greatest pleasure of reading a hunting story to feel like I was actually there! Pretty amazing that a man from Australia can tag along on a little hunt in the Texas Hill Country....grin. DJ

That was a great story. Tell the young lady her nick name should be nerves of steel.
I always enjoyed hunting the hill country. I had a lease in Colorado City and wish I still did. My biggest buck from there was a decent 10 that looked very similar to hers, huge body and all.
Again congrats to the young lady and pat on the back for dad.

There's a commercial that always winds up with 'priceless'.
But you've experienced, most than many will know, the true meaning of PRICELESS - a memory that you (and your daughter) will recall forever! I sure agree. Lots of folks think it's all about "stuff", but it's really the things that don't pass away that have real value. I'm very blessed to have enjoyed this time with my daughter and to have made these memories with her! Thanks for a good reminder of that! DJ

I can tell from your handle that you know a little about how I'm feeling...grin. Hard to beat seeing your children succeed at something challenging. DJ

Awesome story! I shared the same experience with my little sister when she killed her first deer which happened to be a heavy, dark horned 5x5 whitetail buck that scored 130"! Tell her great job and great job to you also. Might have to find some of those Superformance GMX's to try out. I've got the same rifle and it favors lighter bullets. Thanks again for the awesome story. Made me smile! Congrats on your hunt with your sister, and thanks for the kind words. I just haven't had much time to try to work up loads (if I want to have any time to hunt or shoot...grin.), so have lived with factory fodder in a few rifles lately - and have found many shoot it plenty well. My daughter's rifle is the only one that liked the GMX's, but it shoots them very well and I have been very impressed with the performance on game. We got a nice exit and quick kill with this buck, and on every other deer so far. Here's one...Busted shoulders, clipped spine, exit between half dollar & silver dollar sized. And another... In... And out... She didn't go anywhere! DJ

Congratulations on a GREAT buck. I live in the Hill Country too, DJ how much did the buck weigh? Thanks, LBP. You know well how big he is for our country. We didn't weigh him, but my Dad helped me get him in and out of the truck for pics the next morning, and we both thought he was over 125-130 dressed - which is pretty big for a Hill Country deer. I might have killed some heavier, but if so, not by much. I did weigh one that came off the same place and kind of reminds me of this buck that went 175 before I gutted him. He was another 6.5 year old deer... DJ
