I am looking to get a new rifle for Elk hunting and wanted to know if anyone has used the Remington Model Seven Magnum Laminated Stock in 7mm Rem SA Ultra Mag ? This looks to be a really nice handy rifle.

I believe Mule Deer has grassed a few critters with the 7 SAUM. I'm not a model 7 owner, so have no experience, but it looks like a handy rig.

Saw one last weekend at a gunshow but they wanted it more than I did. $640 used.Rick.

Thanks for the replies. I usually want a lever action and I just like the 30-30. I also like my 308. I want to get something totally different and something to have for a special hunt. I have seen cartridges come and go. This one will be a keeper and I do want to use it on Elk. When the last kid leaves the nest, I am going to Alaska on a Moose and Caribou hunt with this rifle weather or not it is still in production or not. My mind is made up. I�m getting one of these.

Would be very fine for the purpose, in my opinion. The 7mm SAUM is essentially the .280 Ackley in a short action, which is a good thing. Generally they shoot like crazy too....

My M-7 in 308 handled like a good 30-30. I wanted a little more barrel, though, and the one you're talking about should be perfect.
