I'm surprised nobody has suggested a SIG 220. It's about the size of a Colt Commander and utterly reliable. Mine will feed empty cases, for example. It's also SA/DA. Only thing might be the price. New, they're about $700 or so, but I didn't pay near that for mine. A friend of mine has one. I've like the idea of one since they first announced that model. Only thing is it doesn't sit in the hand quite as well as a good old 1911. Also doesn't manage recoil for quick repeat shots as well due to the barrel sitting higher in relation to the hand. Otherwise, damned good idea. If I were to get a SIG, that would be the model.

Here's a link to my favorite choice of carry gun. Colt lightweight Officers 45ACP. Not my choice of grips or sights on this one, but I just posted this auction as an example. I own Glocks, S&W's and other Colts, but this handgun for reasons of weight, accuracy and confidence is the firearm I trust the most. That's my 2cents anyway. -TomT LINK: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=211011781 +7

Saw a Colt Double Eagle at a shop yesterday. Asking 375. What are the good and bad points?

I think a 1911 type is a good choice.Heavy, but good.I just found a bargin on an AMT Hardballer, that will be my truck/car gun.It shoots as well or better than my Goldcup. Lightman

I can't recall them off the top of my head, but iirc the colt double eagles were full of reliability issues. I could be wrong as its been a while.
