My first 22 rimfire was a Ruger 10/22. They're accurate and as versatile as they come. If I was forced to only have one 22lr, the 10/22 would be it. There's just too much you can do with one to not have one in the safe.

That being said, I think I've found my new "favorite" 22 rimfire! I recently picked up a Marlin Original Golden 39M. It has a straight-grip stock just like the original Mountie but has a lighter, slimmer 20" barrel.

I had a chance to take it for a test drive today and all I can say is "Wow!" - this baby's FUN!! I sighted it in and spent some time breaking clay pigeons and then took it with me on winter hike hoping to find a Cottontail. I ran out of daylight so no luck with the rabbits but not only is this gun a hoot to shoot (gotta love lever-actions) it's also a joy to carry. I gotta say I wish I'd found out about these a long time ago because they sure make chuckin' 22s quality entertainment!!

So what "trips your trigger" when it comes to 22 rimfires? Is it accuracy, function, looks, or something else?

It's probably a combination of several characteristics and if you're like me, your tastes change as you go along.

If you have 'em, make sure to post pics too!!

For fun, I like the Ruger 10/22 KRBIBBZ, the stainless, green laminated mannichers, that Ruger made for Wal-Mart back in the mid-1990s.

For accuracy in a sporter, I like the Winchester 52 Sporter.

For accuracy in a target rifle, I like the Remington 37.

For survival, I like the Marlin 982.

For pistols, I like the S&W 2206.

For revolvers, I like the S&W 18.

For combination guns, I like the Savage 24.

Remington 513Sporter model, and the CZ 452, either American or Varmint model.

Winchester 1906. Because while in my hands and a pocket full of cartridges it makes me feel like a kid again.

Great pic there RoundOak!! (and go Green Bay wink )

I've heard a lot of good things about the Win 52 and CZ 452. If I were going to buy another 22, I think one of those would be next on my list.

Since we're also posting pistols, my vote there will go to the Ruger Mark II. The SS 5 1/2" bull is about perfect for a factory pistol but I like it even better once you add a 4 1/2" threaded Tactical Solutions Pac-Lite upper (w/ Weaver mounts on top and bottom), Hogue grips, Volquartsen trigger kit, Streamlight TLR 1 or 2, Ultra-dot L/T red-dot and SWR Spectre Suppressor. cool

The nice thing about the Mountie is that the whole gun is not only scaled to the cartridge but at the same time scaled to be used by an adult.... My first gun was a 24" 39A Golden and while no complaints wish I had bought a Mountie. I did pick up a 60s vintage fat barreled Mountie but my neighbor fell in love with it so now it resides across the street... I am looking for a 39A Carbine, tapered barrel Mountie with 3/4 magazine, but have not found a decent deal on one yet.

10/22s are the Transformer Toy of the .22 Rifle world... I have two of the stainless Internationals with black/gray laminated stocks that are good shooters....they are not tack drivers...but 100% reliable no matter what they are fed.

In rifles my true love is an accurate bolt gun... At this point the favorite is the CZ 452 American with the 17" threaded barrel. It wears a Leupold 4.5-14x40mm scope and is a tackdriver....

Thanks passport.

BTW - where are the action shots of your 552?? That was the first firearm I ever shot. My cousin took me out with his semi-auto Speedmaster 552 and we shot 4 Jackrabbits and 2 Cottontails that day. Boy was I HOOKED after that!!
