I just picked up a second-hand Remington 7600 in .308 win. I love this gun but the trigger is horrid.

Can a good gunsmith do anything to eliminate the creep, etc. on these triggers or am I destined to have this sloppy trigger forever ?

If you go to gunbroker.com and do a search for 7600's you will find a trigger kit that is available. I have installed these on several rifles of mine. The triggers break around 2lbs 12oz. Not shabby for a pump.

On another forum, a member posted a business that tunes Rem 7400s. Since the 7400 and 7600 have similar but not identical triggers, they may be willing to tune your trigger. I don't know since I have not contacted them. Here is the link:

http://www.accuracysystemsinc.com/cust_remington_7400.html.

I have read that the 'Patriot' trigger tune kit sold through ebay consist of a single spring that replaces the stock trigger return/sear spring. I have no experience with that kit.

I have replaced the stock trigger spring in both my 760 and 740 with ones that I found at Ace Hardware to reduce the trigger pull to 3 lbs. As expected, the creep and overtravel were not improved but it is still a more manageable trigger. I have tested my modified triggers at my work bench with an unloaded rifle as well as at a safe location (gravel pit and no one else around) with live ammo and have not been able to produce an 'unintentional discharge' (yet). However, I don't trust either trigger because I have not work with them under my hunting conditions (wet, freezing) nor do I know how quickly the spring will fatique with use. Regardless, if you do modify your trigger, and perhaps especially so, only chamber a round when the barrel is pointed in a safe direction and you intend to shoot in the next few seconds and immediatley clear the chamber if you don't shoot.

Accuracy Sys Inc. will do a trigger job for $75. It's a two stage with a 3.5# trigger pull weight. I'm going to have it done t my 7600.

Alan Timney worked on mine (yes, THAT Timney). You can reach him at (562) 865-0181. It's still not a great trigger, but far better than it was. HTH, Dutch.

I had an after market trigger kit put into one I had. It helped a lot. I don't reme, ber the name of it. I also had it converted to a left hand safety.

Just got my wife's 7600 Patrol back from the gunsmith last week. He hadn't looked at a 7600 before, but managed to knock the loading down to about 2.5 lbs. Still as creepy as before, but dramatically better than it was.

Remington 700 and Winchester Mod/ 70 Classic triggers: Purchased new Rem. LSS(Laminated Stainless '06) along with Leupold 2.5X8X36 Compact Silver Scope. I won the Mod.70. Both triggers were over 7 lbs. MY local gunsmith charged me $35. for each rifle. The triggers are now about 2.5 to 3 lbs. Don"t spend the money for a new trigger on a hunting rifle. Take it to a competent gunsmith first.

My Gunsmith charges $36.00 for most trigger jobs. And its well worth the money. All my rifles have smooth 4LB triggers and that works fine for me. Find a good gunsmith, and give him all your business.

Mr. Timney did the trigger job on my M77 Ruger. At the time Timney would do trigger jobs on Remington pump and semi-auto rifles and shotguns for the same price. After Mr. Timney's death the company quit doing the "special" work because Mr. Timney was the only one that did it. I'm not sure if they have started doing the work on firearms again.

My son and my brothers friend both have 7600s. They have had their triggers done by different gunsmiths. Both guns break at 3# with no takeup or creep. They both have over travel. The work was done for fourty dollars each. For my money on a hunting riflr $40 isn't bad. By the way both shoot 1" or better at 100yrds.

Where are the gunsmiths that did the work? I'm interested. Thanks in advance.

One is in western Pa and the other in central Pa. Agood gunsmith in your area should be able to handle the job. If you want the name for the one in Pa. I'll get it for you next week. I'm leaving for a long weekend.
