That's what happens when we prop up dictators.
Eventually they get over-thrown - and then the people REALLY hate us!

I haven't propped up any dictator. Served in the Military under two Presidents but they were elected.
Don't know what you are talking about.

Next to go will be Yemen then possibly Iran. Much civil unrest in most middle East countries.

There should be no denying that "the west" has quietly made sure that all the Arab dictators (who are friendly to us) have all the arms, and support to continue to stay in power - against the will of the people who live in those countries.
We have never wanted or cared about democracy over there.
The end result is - sadly - that if those countries now thow out those same dictators - in their place, we'll get radical Hamas-type governments - they will all be anti-west, pro-Islamist and very dangerous.
The chickens will indeed have come home to roost.

I just hope we have the RIGHT people inside of the Mosques here at home,....
Of course, that would bring up the question, "Do they have the RIGHT people to report to, wouldn't it ?

The problem is not that we dont care about democracy in the middle east. The problem is that the people living their dont care. The alternatives are the current dictator and the Islamic fascist theocracy. Look at Iran. Jimmy Carter followed the policies you espouse and we ended up with the current evil moslem theocracy. Which is much worse then the Shaw.

What is amusing is watching all the people running and choking from the CS gas and many of them have a cigarette in their hand and are puffing away! Now that is a free society.

Which is much worse then the Shaw. You are right to compare Egypt to Iran to some extent. Much of the Muslim world has not had the history of higher education in their countries like Egypt and Iran have had. However, I think Egypt is a little different from Iran, and I'm optimistic that Egypt will find a more moderate approach. Of course, based on what I know about Iran, I would not have predicted it to have gone down the path it did if I had been old enough to have assessed the situation in the mid-1970s, but Egypt IS different, and the person who is setting himself up to be the most likely candidate to replace Mubarak certainly does not seem to be an Islamist radical. Also, Egypt resisted the Islamic revolutionary movement of the 1970s, so that bodes well for their future. However, many Egyptians, including well-educated women, have been getting more "conservative" in their Islamic practices (e.g., covering their hair) over the past few years, which is going toward Saudi Arabia's practices and further away from early 1970's (pre Islamic revolution) Egypt where coeds at Cairo University were showing a lot of skin with their short miniskirts and sleeveless blouses. I think how Egypt goes depends on how Mubarak decides to leave office. If Mubarak states that he is going to retire at the end of his current term and that his son is not going to run for president in the fall elections, then I think things can go smoothly; otherwise, I don't want to think about what will happen.

I will add that I hope Mubarak is getting good counsel from the international community in how he should transition out, but I'm afraid the current White House resident doesn't have any good wisdom to share. Perhaps Hillary will get some input from Bill to forward to Hosni, since Bill is a very shrewd politician with excellent political skills.
