When I bought it several years ago, he told me it is a 99R. It is a 250 cal., 24"bbl, metal buttplate, checkering on forearm, not a takedown, forearm is long, big, and rounded on end, not a schnoble. Serial number is 5712xx. can anyone help? I have pictures but don't know how to post here. Can email to anyone. Thanks, Wallacem in Ga

As Phil said, it is a 99R, only 2 models made in that serial number range and the other model had a schnabel forearm. That would be a 1950 rifle by the way.

There are 2 catalogued versions of the 99R. The 1930's version looked entirely different than the 1950's version. The 1930's version had a double ring indentation around the front of the forearm, fancier checkering, and the forearm wasn't wider than the receiver. The 1950's version obviously has a much wider forearm and the simpler triangle checkering on the forearm. Here's my 1952 99R in 250:

Yes, mine looks like your gun. Every bit as clean, maybe more. What would it bring in a sale? I was thinking about culling it from the herd, trying to reduce.

Mines actually pretty dinged up, it's been hunted a lot. Best way to find out what it's worth is put it up on an auction site with great pictures and a low starting price. It'll get bid up to what it's worth, 250's are popular.
