I had Danny Pedersen re-bore an African Ruger 375 to 0.423" and throat it for tha 404 Ruger. His work was fast, fairly priced and excellent quality. The rifle remained just as accurate after the re-bore as before. I will use him again for re-bores.

since deflave mentioned the 338-06 I'll ask: what is the net effect in feel by taking a 30 06 win m70 factory sporter barrel, having it duplicated and bored at 338? in other words, will the difference in weight be noticeable in terms of handling?

Since your .416 Ruger necked up to .423 (404) has a short neck to start with, how do your 404 bullets both crimp in their cannelures and also fit into the Hawkeye's magazine? Thanx Indybuster

I just got J.E.S down in Cottage Grove OR, to rebore my M77 Ruger 338 to the 375/338 Taylor Chatfield, Couldnt beleve how fast I got it back. Havent had a chance to shoot it yet, (still rounding up all the reloading componet's)but his work looks good and he asked to let him know how it shoot's. as soon as I can find another M77, I'm going to have him bore it to the 416 Taylor.

I have three rifle rebores that Cliff LaBounty did, a 338-06, 35 Whelen and 9.3x62. All are really great shooters. Jim Dubell bought Cliff's business and from all reports does the same high quality work. I have one rebore that Al Siegrist did for a custom Ruger Flattop conversion to 38 WCF. Again, top quality work. Turnaround times for all of the rebores was in the 2 - 4 month range. I am a big fan of rebores as they can be as accurate as any custom rebarrel, mine are, can be less expensive and are a downright bargain when considering the costs to remount high end sights, barrel bands, repolish, rebed, etc.

I had a Sako carbine rebored by Bob West (retired) in Springfield, Ore. many years ago. The cost, IIRC, was $200.
It would have cost at least double that to have the barrel copied, chambered, sight added and blued.
Barrels that are special for one reason or another ( octagon, flutes, sights or whatever )reboring is a great solution to making them more useful to the owners.
I went from a .243 carbine of limited use to me, to a .358 that's been whacking and stacking elk for some time now.

I don't crimp bullets in the 404 Ruger. There is sufficient neck tension to hold the bullet in place against recoil in the magazine, wotht hte resizing die I use. Most loads produce a full case anyway.

Finaly got the 375 Taylor loaded up.JES rebored my ruger 338 mag to .375 and it shoots great. 1 1/4 groups @ 100 yd's and about 2863 fps through the chrony with Hornady 270 gr sp's. need to fine tune a load now and get working on my next project, a 416 Taylor. Jess does a great job and the turn around time was unbelevable. Very happy with his work.

I said I'd report back on that 7mm rebored to 338. Dan did a great job. Included was getting it chambered for 338 RCM with a longer throat. I gave him a standard 338 RCM reamer and he used a throating reamer to lengthen throat per my dummy round.
First load was with 300 gr Sierra MK. When Berger began to market their second generation 300 gr hybrid I switched to them. Great accuracy with both.
As for the barrel: Breakin was fast and easy. Recently I put 46 rounds through the barrel and clean up was very easy. It helps to only be using 57 gr of powder and that lumbering bullet at 2575 fps. Next time I'll go 75 rnds.
I will definately use Dan Pederson's Classic Barrel and Gun Works again.
