Have some 80gr TTSX's on order for a 257Bob. You guys have finally convinced me to try some of those stupid, expensive bullets . Any tips or "watchouts"? Do I need to thoroughly clean the barrel before using these. How often do you clean the barrels after they have been "contaminated" with x-type bullets? Any issues with switching back and forth with cup-and-core bullets? Thanks. Think I will start with 4064...good choice?

The TSXs don't foul as badly as the first generation X bullets. Can't tell that they foul any worse than any other bullet. No special precautions needed. Sometimes they respond well to being seated farther away from the lands than other bullets.

I load a lot a Barnes bullets. The only two pieces of advise I can contribute is I usually start the bullet .030 from the Lands. Its served me well, but one may have to go up to .050 or down to .010 to find a sweeter spot.
Also, I have loads I'll use for Nosler Partitions that give me relatively the same performance from a HC, BT, GK, ect. My exceptions (of the bullets I load) are Nosler eTips, Hornady GMX's, and Barnes TSX/TTSX/MRX. With the Nosler and Hornady's they carry a lot of bearing surface, so I usually get around halfway between Starting and Max loads before I find a load or stop due to excessive pressure. Some Barnes bullets carry a larger bearing surface (55gr TTSX .224). For the most part they don't shoot as well with a load developed for another bullet using the same weight. YMMV

I always thoroughly clean a barrel before shooting TSX,s if I have previously shot a different bullet through it.

Noticed on the Barnes website they have that bullet doing over 3800 fps out of a 24" 25-06 with the new polyunsaturated Hybrid 100V powder. Anybody done that? http://www.barnesbullets.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/25-06RemingtonWeb.pdf

They have usually taken me a bit longer to find the sweet spot with them, but when I do, lookout. Great bullets.

Barnes can be very "optimistic" about some of their data. I played with the idea on quickload. My version doesn't have the 80 grain ttx in the library. But, if I load a 75 grain bullet it says at 65k it's possible with several powders to get over 3800. Now considering the ttsx has the bands which reduce bearing friction it "might" be possible to get there but I would say you'd really be treading on upper levels.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA
