Looking to find out what is the rate of twist in a mini 14 barrel. Also I am trying to come up with a bullet that will handle game from rabbits up to deer. Thanks for all advice and comments.

I think the twist is 1 in 9. I use factory Winchester 64 GR Powerpoints. I have shot both antelope and deer with those.

I have been thinking about changing to Speer Trophy Bonded Bear Claws. Those would be a little pricey for rabbits!

I must admit that I do not shot a lot of reloads in my Mini. 223 ammo is just so cheap to buy.

I found rate of twist on the ruger web site it is 1 in 9. I wanted to hand load for it because I thought I might be better off using a heavy for cartridge bullet. I don't know a thing about laoding the 223 though. I think they go up to about 75gr. But what wieght is best in a 1 in 9 barrel? I only started thinking about all this today so I got a lot to figure out still. Thanks for your input.

I'll second the 64 gr Power Points. My ranch rifle is no better than a 2" for a 3 shot 100 yard group. Still, it goes a lot of places better rifles don't and seems to solve the problems at hand. Ward

I think you are fine with most bullet weights out of you mini-14.
