Bought some 55grs to try in my 22-250AI. Buddy mentioned they probably won't hold up to the speed. Sierra prints the same thing in the manual, but I have seen them advertised good to 4000fps.

Pushed the 40's to 3900 in my 223AI, and no problems. Anyone have poor results at hyper velocity?

thanks.

I have several 22-250AI's and the 55gr Blitzking is my favorite bullet with the slow twist barrel's (1-12"-1-14"twist). if they blow -up the problem is the 3-groove barrel. if you want to go hyper velocity go 5 or 6 groove

I pushed the 40 grainer Blitz Kings to 4500 with no problem..

and even tho the brass was only good for two loadings, I pushed them to 4750 fps in a one in 14 twist... all five bullets made it to a 500 yd target.. and there was no keyholing..

so unless you are pushing them like that in a faster twist, I think you are good..

in fact, the 55s should be stronger, just by being bigger..

a guy at the range was claiming much higher velocity with 50 grain Blitzkings out of a 22TTH.. but I never saw the results on targets or over the chronograph... but evidently the bullets were holding up...

ballistic tips evidently will do so also.. have ran those at 4500 fps in a one in 14 twist and they did fine also ( 40 grainers)

Dogcatcher: I have NOT reached the speed limit for 55 grain BlitzKings in any of my 22-250's or 220 Swifts.
They all have arrived on target and performed once there, quite well.
Maybe you are confusing them with the 55 grain Sierra "Blitz" bullets that are more frangible and some folks think they have a "speed limit".
Again I also shoot these 55 grain Blitz bullets out of my 22-250's and 220 Swifts with pleasing results.
The fastest I have chronographed a 22 caliber 55 grain BlitzKing is 3,920 F.P.S. - and again that was fine.

Thanks for the great responses. Pushing them out of a 12 twist. Currently shooting Bergers, but wanted to try something else for yotes.

Just looked at the manual again, you were right, i was reading data for the "Blitz" bullet, didn't even know that existed. They said the Blitzking was good to 4400.

Any favorite powders for these out of a 22-250AI? I am using Varget with the Bergers.

Thanks.

They'll handle the speed of that cartridge just fine. The 50's have gone 4270 in my 22-250AI. Barrrel is a 14" twist.

As I mentioned yesterday I have several 22-250AI's. Mine for some reason seem to like a different burn rate of powder than my regular 22-250's or my swift's. they all seem to like H414,WW760(same thing) or RL15.
I have 2 22-250AI's both 1-14" twist (different barrel maker's) shooting 55gr Blitzking's that just love IMR4831.........It does sound a bit odd but worth a try if they all go through the same hole at the same speed. try it and let me know your result's

Thanks, I am open to trying different powders. I know I have some 760, and R15 on hand. How far are you jumping the Blitzking's to the lands in yours?

I push both the 50 and 55 blitzkings to the max in my 220 swift( one in fourteen) without the slightest problem. Maybe your friend is thinking of the regular blitz bullets, they hold together in my 22 ppc but not in my swift.
