Will 8" do it?

Yup.

My 6.5-284 is 8.5 twist. It will shoot 140's into the teens at 100. I've read that you don't want more twist than needed. Over twist can add resistance at the cost of velocity. 8 twist in the 6.5 should be OK.

Further, my Winchester 70 I used to have had the 9" twist and I regularly shot 140's out of it with no problem.

I like the 1 in 8 twist as I only shoot 140's and heavier! My Krag loves Sierra 160 Match Kings!

9 twist will work for faster (25-06, 257 Roy) and 8 twist will work for the rest of the slower calibers. But, with you in higher altitude Colo, 8 & 9 will work for both.

I run 8.5 in a Krieger with 130 VLD's @ 2850 from my heavy 6.5x47. Put 10 into .49" @ 100 today.

I run 8 in my Broughton for 140 PT @ 2850 from my other, lighter, 6.5x47. Put 10 into .6" @ 100, also today.

Both temps were around freezing = colder, thicker air which can destabilize a slower bullet not twisted enough.
