have any of you guys ever built a 257-300 win mag? any comments positive or negative.I know its overbore,but there are worse things in life.

What's the capacity of the 300 mag?
If I had time, I could check on Quickload and run some numbers by changing the case up a little. But unfortunately, I don't have time.

Even the 257STW does not beat the 257WBY by any measureable amount. Only so much powder and gas one can push down a 25 cal hole.

Sounds interesting, but as Mark said the law of diminishing returns sets in big time w/ a hole that small.
To my way of thinking that velocity is wasted on the lower-BC projectiles. Why not a 6.5-300 WM instead? Then you just lengthen the barrel a couple of inches (28" min?) and VIOLA! Use a fast-twist barrel and you'll have a solid 1300 yard big game rifle right there...
