I was wondering if there is a safe way to form my brass without actually shooting a bullet through my rifle? I have read of a method using a small charge of bullseye pistol powder with a small piece of paper towel in the case to hold the powder in. Has anyone tried that?

Load up normal to heavy charge for standard .243 and just shoot, have fun and don't worry about Fire forming....never could understand why people worry about shooting

All kinds of ways out there, but I fire formed mine with a known excellent load I had with another of my 243's.... got good to excellent groupings and no lost of speed... load was pretty hot so I got perfectly formed brass and some bragging sized groups... Could have hunted with them with no problem... Have some fun while fire forming and see what kind of potential the rifle might have...

Don't just "load up some ammo"......pick a bullet and powder and do a load sequence like you would with any other cartridge. One of my rifles has a 13twist-26" barrel and likes W760 with a 70gr bullet. Most accurate fireforming loads came out at 48.1-48.7gr/760 and 70TNT, velocity 3790-3858 depending on primer. These are hotter than a std. 243 and a whole lot faster. Your load with formed brass will be close to or the same as the fireform load. In other words the "fireform" load is a hunting load that also produces a formed AI case.
