Well since this site has got me hooked on building rifles, i'm almost ready to pull the trigger..
Going to build a .270 question will a Lilja #1 be good or should i get #2 barrel..
And would 150 grain be good for deer and sheep.. I dont reload i looked up bullet companies seems there is a lot of 150s to chose from...
Also would a Lilja #1 be okay with a 150 grain bullet, just looking to get 3 shots off...
Thanks for any advice NODUCK

Based off my experience with both a Lilja #1 and a #2 slam dunk I wouldn't even consider the #1 again..
I'd go #2, cut to 23" and short shank 10 twist. It'll shoot anything from the 90's to the 160's with aplomb.
And yes, the 150 would work for pretty much anything that moves from mice to moose.

I built my .270 on a Remington action with a #3 contour barrel, a B&C Medallist (aluminum bedding block) and used Leupold QRW bases and rings (steel and rather stout). All up it weighs about 8.75 with a 3.5-10 Leupold on board. Some would find that excessively heavy but I don't mind and it shoots everything, including 150 grain Partitions into ridiculously small groups. I also find that with a 24" #3 contour barrel it has an excellent balance for shooting from field positions.

I'd go 24" #2 in a McMillan KS stock.

What could be a sadder way to end a life than to die having never hunted with great dogs, good friends and your family?

Mark D, is there much of a weight difference between #1 and #2??
And i was thinking of 23" for barrel length...
The gun will be used mainly for MN deer hunting 50 yrd shots... And once in awhile out west for muley.... And in 15 yrs for sheep hunting, ha ha...

Take a look at Lilja's web site, it appears that the #1 weighs 2.7 lbs and the #2 weighs in at 3 lbs.

There are a bunch of very knowledgeable lefties here on the 'Fire.
Jim in Idaho, Moosemuncher, kk alaska, srwshooter, Paul Walukewicz and MontanaMarine to name but a few.
I'd venture to say a higher percentage of active participants here on the 'Fire are left handed than the percentage of lefties in the general population. At least it seems that way to me.

Noduck, unless you can find a used Remington KS in LH I think you could do a whole lot worse than the LH 700 FS that moosemuncher is selling in the classifieds right now. It already has a fantastic stock and a superb trigger. If you must have a 24" 270 Win (and you must! ) you could have one with a simple rebarrel. For well under 1k you would have just about the perfect rifle with a SS barrel from the maker of your choosing. If I hadn't just gotten a new rifle and a new barrel I'd buy it.

I cannot fathom building a custom rifle, only to feed it factory ammo.
