Funny if you look at it. Some folks actually believed they were a good infantry rifle yet the same fellas don't think it is powerful enough for deer.

Provided, you don't hit 'em too far back.

As a kid I hunted everything with a .30 Carbine. I sat many a hour in a deer stand with one, never shot a deer with it.
But I did use it on most everything else.

I had a scope on my M-1 Carbine, the mount fit into the dovetailed slot where the rear sight was located. It would shake loose after around 50 shots.

It was fairly accurate with 3" to 4" groups at 75 yards.
One problem was the bullet, the 110 grain soft points were sort of slow to expand past 40 or 50 yards.

With modern .30 cal bullets for the .327 Federal and such the carbine would make a super home defense round.

If they can just figure out how to keep the scope mount tight.....

Ever go to the dump and shoot rats? A 22LR might be a little light for the new breed of rats, but a 30 Carbine ..... Humm.

Why would you want a scope for home defense? My wife decided that the 30 carbine would be better next to the bed than the 9mm pistol so I took the scope off and put the peep back on, then added a laser with the button on the forearm. Fast, handy and lots of shots if needed and good two hand control. miles

Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

Sounds like a good one for that.
I would want a small rifle backing me up!

Use to have a great time chasing rabbits and coyotes with mine, loaded with a 110 gr cast bullet. Not real accurate, but made a nice bang for low bucks and was fun. Gonna have to dig mine back out, cause I found a case of ammo that I loaded 20 yrs ago. Wonder what it will do to hogs?

What it was designed for, People, Great house defense weapon. They also would make a handy calling rifle where your shots are limited to 100 yards and under. They are just fun to shoot and plink with.

I have a 30 Carbine with a slightly bent barrel. I bought it two years ago, it came with 600 rounds of 110 grn metal case UMC.

I have never fired it. Any suggestions about a source for a new barrel?

In the past, I have killed a fair number of dogs, one deer, and a couple of hogs.
All were with 110 grain SP bullets

Raccoons, bobcats, possum, armadillo, rabbits, feral dogs, coyotes, feral humans-just about any pest you can imagine inside of 100-150 yards. Use an expanding point bullet vice the FMJ to increase lethality. IIRC Evans and Sanow gave the .30 Carbine a 95% one shot stop capability with soft point ammo. Their stats were supposedly from actual shootings, so take it for what it's worth.

Factory .30 cal 110 gr softpoints are, terminal-ballistically speaking, more than adequate for use on 2-legged varmints, and I wouldn't hesitate to use one to take deer-sized game out to 75 yards. Handloading could stretch that to 100 yards, if one had a mind to...

M1 carbines are a blast.

A chit load of Germans would testify to the effectiveness of the 30 carbine if they could still talk.
