257AI,what bullets had you used in the past, and what made you seek a change? What distances,do you seek to have covered? What is the action used,on your 257AI? With that info, you can narrow down your projectile selection.........

I have a Encore 209x50 that was being real picky last fall. That is my first project. I have a .308 Win barrel for my Encore that I was trying to sell but it may be in need of some range time. Last a 7MM-08 Model 7 is calling my name. Sean

Three new toys to play with over the summer. A 416 Express on a '98 action,Shillen 22"barrel,kevlar stock, wearing a 1.5X5 GS. #2 is a ss Mod 7 rechambered to 35 Rem with a Hart 20" barrel wearing a 1.75x6 VXIII. #3 is truly a work of art. A 1943 heavy barrel 52b with Redfield match sights in a honest 95-97% condition. I would be surprised if $2000 would pay for the machine work and hand craftmanship in todays dollars that went into this rifle!

New toy and all the joy of alaskan hunting to play with. Just to stop the argument before it starts, I take hunting in alaska seriously. My toy is a new(to me) M70 338 for whacking whichever big game, whose tag I can afford. Not a resident til December . I just put a new Leupold 3x9x50 on top. Going to the range to try it out this week.

I'm already in consultation with a couple of area gunsmiths to build a 375/300WSM on a Winchester M70 pre-64 style short action, 23 inch barrel. Am I nuts?
[This message has been edited by jackfish (edited February 26, 2001).]

Finally in the process of having the .375AI put together from a .375 barrel I got from AFP, along with a Hogue Overmolded stock, and a Rem 700 Action I picked up at a gun show for $300. As luck would have it, also looking to buy a Pre 64 model 70 .375 that came up. Guess I'll have to take one of them on my moose hunt this fall if they are ready on time, otherwise I'll just have to suffer through with my 338.

My Ruger #1 30-06 is shipping today. This is probably a regular hum drum rifle compared to some of these exotics, but I am excited! This is my first foray into the .30 world.
Shoot straight and often!

For my African Plains game trip coming up, I will use a couple 338 bullets that I have not used before.
First of all, I want to try some 200 Gr NON Coated X bullets, and also some 210 Nosler Partitions.
Lots of people tell me great things about the partitions, but I have never used them.
I have used the 225 Barnes X, but not the 200 gr.
In my 300 Winchester, I may very well use Federal Factory Classic 180 gr Sierra Pro Hunters. They shoot superbly, to say the least, in my new Walther Barrel. I also have a few 180 Federal Deep Shoks left, and might try them too.
But EVERYTHING, I have put in the Walther has shot really well so far, so it will be a last minute decision as to what I am going to take along.

I bought a new to me Marlin 1895. I don't know yet if I will use it hunting white tails, but will try it out this summer and see how I like it.

Stick, I'm hoping to rebarrel a lefty long action to 338-06. I have decided on the 338-06 over the 35 Whelen. At least for now. I am in the process of getting into handloading and since that has been the main road block to getting a 338-06, ..... well you get the idea. I hope handloading is as easy as some of you have indicated. I don't want to spend a lot to get started, as if I decide it is not for me, I want to keep my losses to a minimum. And if I decide it is for me, then I can upgrade a few items and be set. Anyway that's my plan. I have been looking at the Lee Aniversary kit. Includes press, scale, powder measure, as well as a few other itmes for around $70.00. Add dies, and case length gauge and I think my cost's will be around $110.00 to get started. Anybody have a better suggestion?? I am open to suggestions. Thanks. Mark.
