What comes to your mind when you think of the 'ultimate classic' rifle?
Knowing how guys on here can never just pick one rifle in regards to any question let's say you can pick three. I thought of restricting it the 1900's and on but figured there might be a lot lever, Sharps, and .45-70 fans mad at me! Besides, we got to be able to throw in the 98 Mauser!
Make, Model and caliber and do you own it (pics?)?
For now I have only one in my head. When someone says the ultimate 'classic' the first thing that pops in my head is a pre-64 Model 70 Super Grade in either of the two famous Hollys (and no, I don't have one).

Obviously, to each his own. The 700 is decent rifle (I have one and like it) but, for me, when the term 'classic' is brought up I can't think of a single 700 that would come to mind--even after some thought! Again, not knockin' the Remmy, it is what it is, just not 'classic' in my mind.
But, that is why I like threads like this. I find it interesting what gun nuts of different ages/backgrounds/experiences think. Variety is the spice of life and the reason we have so many great choices in the shooting world.

For me the "Classic rifle" will always be a 98 actioned stalking rifle and the clioser it comes to the English 1920's style like Rigby, Jeffery etc the better. And yes, I do have mine because I built it like that in the Classic 7x57 with bolt mounted aperture sight to boot. Do have a qd scope to carry in day pack though. Von Gruff.

savage 99, and no, I don't own it yet, but sure would like to.
I do have my dad's 1914 Model 94 in 32 special, though, and it doesn't get much more classic than that, I guess. It's been unfired the whole time he had it, over fifty years now. I'm bringing it home in the next few weeks, and it will definitely get fired a few times at my house!
I'm building a classic, too, on a Mauser 98 action, in 6.5 swede.

They sure have sold a lot of Rem 700's and the Pre-64 the word (Classic) sure go in the same thought. Now days seems like Rem comes up with a good thing sell it for 2-3years and then come up with something cheaper, and not as nice. Use to be Adl,Bdl for the most part. I myself am a Rem freak but own a little of everything!

Steelhead - Ya gotta love that fine perch belly 99...! .250 Sav I suppose? .300?
All those mentioned sound good to me, including the 700. For me, it's a pre 64 Win 70 standard in .270 Win and period scope, depending on the age of the rifle.
My 1912 model 94 in .32 Special, certainly fills the bill. I always felt the levers were an "eastern" rifle and the bolts a "western" rifle, for some odd reason

Mauser 98 in 7x57 Had one but I was young and stupid and got it turned into a bench rest rifle in 308 I apologise to everyone. I do have several m96 Swedes in original configuration. One is 1899 made

The classic "classic"? Pretty much a '94 .30-30 in my estimation. Don't have one but I do have a Marlin 333 in .30-30 - and wouldn't trade.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

The 'ultimate classic' rifle to me would be a David Miller Classic in .270 Weatherby. Nope, I don't own one, as my 6 numbers haven't hit yet.

Yesterday I found a S&W Husky in .30-06 with a like new Leupold VX III 3x9 x50 in a local store. Asking price was $519. Some use markks but no hard wear. Nice wood. It snuck into my trunk.
That is about the classiest rifle for the price that I have come across in decades.
